Same message here: "We were unable to retrieve your Facebook account information. Please try again" shows up on site's homepage after attempting to login (for first time) with FB Login Button (from Kunena index page where FB login button is located.) Have tried everything I can find on these forums. Have tried reordering the "user" items. This is quite sketchy. Haven't been able to find a definitive order of these items anywhere.
Also noticed that on my FB Dev page, the App's access token was valid for one hour. Not sure how this affects things.
SourceCoast, Please contact me via my email on file. Thanks for your help.

Warren,
I split this into its own thread, as the other thread was from March. Since then, there's been multiple releases, and your issue is likely unrelated even if it has the same symptoms.

Re-ordering of the user items hasn't been required for over 6 months, and we agree, we didn't like it when we had that requirement :)

As for your issue, can you try, or let me know, the answers to any of the following:
1) Check the overview page of JFBConnect in the admin area, and let us know about any errors you're seeing there. Obviously, there shouldn't be any.
2) Enable the "Show Facebook API Errors on Front-End" setting in the Facebook API tab in the configuration area of JFBConnect. Let us know if any other errors show up when trying to log in in addition to the "We were unable to retrieve.." message.
3) Try enabling the Like button, or any other of the social widgets on your site to see if they work.

Any information you have on the above would really help us diagnose the problem. It's not a common issue, and is almost always very site (or configuration) specific, or else we'd have a fool-proof solution already built into JFBConnect.

Finally, if you can, please send me the URL of your site (via Private Message is fine) so we can take a look at the issue first hand. Sometimes, just seeing the HTML on your page will point out some obvious configuration problems.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello: thanks for your response.

1) I've never seen an error messages in overview area.
2) This has been enabled in the past. Only message is "We were unable to retrieve your Facebook account information. Please try again" on site's homepage.
3) All the other social stuff has always worked (comments, like, share, etc.)

I pm'd you earlier with the other info.

Thanks.

I'm nor sure exactly what's occurring on your site. I just went to your forums and registered without a problem. When I logged out, I was redirected to a page that didn't look like it exists (so I got an error), but other than that, things went smoothly and as expected. You should be able to look up my account in your system.

Can you tell me what profile plugins you have enabled for JFBConnect? Just curious as to what component is adding the extra registration fields for address, terms of service, etc. I don't think that's part of the problem, but if you're still seeing issues, it may help us narrow down the cause faster.

Thanks,
Alex

Okay. Thanks. I'm assuming you registered through "Login with FB" :/
Your user info shows up in J1.6 fine, as well as in the Kunena user area.
Other stuff like terms of service, etc. is coming from "User - Profile" plugin that came with J 1.6 out of the box.
Still can't login (to create account) using my own FB acct.

Yes, I definitely registered through the JFBConnect/Facebook flow. We don't care about normal Joomla registration

As for your issue, I'd try checking out the following things:
1) Try clearing the cache of your browser and restarting it. That may clear any funky cookies that are causing your problem.
2) Try from a different browser
3) Try from a different computer
4) Try from a different Facebook account

Obviously, none of that should be necessary, but the problem will be narrowed down considerably if we know which of those does and doesn't work. It doesn't matter at all if your Facebook User is the one who created the app.

Finally, try going to your Privacy settings in Facebook (www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy) and clicking the Edit Your Settings link under Apps & Websites (bottom left). See if your application, or SourceCoast's is in the list. Try deleting it and logging in again. This will re-request the permissions, and may also help fix the issue.

Sorry we don't have a bullet-proof answer. This simply isn't a normal issue to have.

Thanks, and hope something above helps!
