Does jfb respect member privacy settings when posting to Facebook? eg. if a user has wall posting set to friends only.. will it post on Facebook?

also.. is there a way to have it post anonymously? e.g if I want wall post and updates posted but not associated with a specific user? I have a dating site and I'd like to post some things that users are doing but want to respect their privacy.

thanks

Mark,
Just so you know, I'll be moving this to the JFBConnect Pre-Sales Questions area after I post this response.. so look for it there, instead of the JLinked Pre-Sales Questions area.

As to your question, yes, JFBConnect will only push status updates from JomSocial to the user's Facebook wall *if* the post is marked as "public". Any other privacy setting will prevent the post from being pushed to Facebook.

Regarding anonymous posts, I'm not really following your question. Who would be posting the update on your site, and what Facebook profile should they go to? What part of that should be anonymous? In general, I don't believe you can do an anonymous post like you're asking, since Facebook doesn't really like anything that can't be tracked back to a real person (that's just asking for spam and other issues), but maybe with more clarification, we'd be able to help you figure out a way or alternative to do what you're looking for.

Thanks,
Alex

I think I might have misinterpreted a feature..

Now you can post any Joomla actions to Facebook when a user uploads a photo, reads a blog entry, joins a group, reviews or votes on a page, or any other activity from your site. No popups, no "Are you sure" or "Post to your wall?" prompts, it happens automatically and is an amazing way to organically promote your stie. With JFBConnect, you'll be able to post actions like below, automatically, to your users Timeline.

I was thinking it meant I would have a "stream" on my sites Facebook page that would post these events from Jomsocial. Does it only post on the users facebook page/timeline?

My site doesn't have any "public" members. There are "free" members but none of my jomsocial profiles are visible unless you are a registered member. e.g. by default my jomsocial profiles security is set to "members only" after registration not Public. Using JSPT and Payplans I will offer a paid membership so that only other paid members can see your photo galleries and posts, etc.. within JomSocial sort of creating a one-way privacy "firewall" between free and paid members. Paid members can see everything and message anyone where unpaid can only see post, photo galleries etc.. of other unpaid members.

What I was hoping to accomplish is to post all the activities of my free members on the sites facebook page.

The anonymous part was just an idea my sites facebook page.. I was thinking it would nice to be able to post the site activities of members without revealing their profile name- but only on the sites fb page not spamming other facebook members pages.

REally, the anonymous thing really isnt important if I can limit the fb posts to a specific group of members- or if any member clicks on a fb share button.

I hope that makes sense.

Makes sense, and yes, we were talking about different features.

The feature I was talking about is a plugin that we have will post a status update to the user's Facebook timeline when they enter that status into JomSocial. That way, the 'public' status posts are synched between JomSocial and Facebook.

The feature you were talking about was the Open Graph Actions features. Those too post to the user's own Facebook Tiemline/News Feed when a user 'does' something on your site, like reading an article, uploading a photo, or joining a group. The action itself will post regardless of privacy settings, but that doesn't mean that the image would be visible to anyone if they followed the link posted to Facebook. They may just know that the user joined a group named 'xyz' or whatever.

Finally, we don't really have any features right now that post activity to a Facebook Page. That's something we'll be doing later this year, but it's something that we honestly wouldn't recommend for doing what you're looking for. Your Facebook Page is a huge promotional tool and should be curated and managed closely to make sure the viewers of your Page get relevant and useful information. If you just start posting dozens (or hundreds) of things that users are doing on your site with little context, it will likely a) cause you to lose followers and b) have posts on your wall marked as spam when they show up in a followers news ticker/feed, which will hurt your overall exposure on Facebook further.

That's just my thoughts. If you have a developer, you can add the ability to post to a wall pretty easily, but it's not built-in to JFBConnect yet.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you for the clarification. I'll take your advise on posting to the fb page..

I just watched the open graph actions video.. very nice. However, it does appear to show uploaded photos.. is that something that can be turned off? and just show the activity and link?

Mark,
To get a post into Facebook, they want an image. The posting of an "Upload" action in JomSocial will only show the album cover, not the actual image uploaded. There's a bug in how Facebook generates it's URLs, so there's no way to actually post the real image URL, just a link to the album itself.

For other actions, there still needs to be some sort of image. We could help you set a logo or something else for the post instead of a 'real' image from the page, if that's what you're looking for.

Hope that helps,
Alex
