A few questions was created by t.jsmi
After a 13 year stint in the army, I'm getting back into the web design game. WOW have things changed, so forgive me if my questions seem dumb.

I have a few questions before purchasing your product (I'm pretty much sold anyway)
1) How well does your product work with subscription extensions like AEC, Nice Subscriptions, or OSE Membership? (Also, can you recommend which one of those is better)

2) Since my site will be subscription based, I would like to have it so all users can SEE comments, but only registered (paid) users can actually leave a comment. Is this possible?

3) Can it be set up that FB users can comment and then it appears on their wall, but non-FB users can still comment on my site? Or is it an all-or-nothing type of thing?

No problem for the questions, that's why we have a pre-sales area :D Hopefully I can answer what you're looking for, but if you have any other specifics, just let me know.

1) JFBConnect creates 100% standard Joomla users. So, any other subscription extension will see the user as though they registered using the normal registration flow. The only times you'll run into issues is if you want the subscription process to be part of the registration process. In that case, you can run into issues because JFBConnect has to have it's own registration flow, and that doesn't always tie into another vendor's registration+subscription flow. If you want the subscription to be something the user gets after they've registered, you shouldn't run into any problems.

As for what's better, I really couldn't tell you. It also depends on what the user is subscribing to (digital download, access to the site, etc). I know we have users who have successfully integrated JFBConnect with AEC and OSE Membership. Haven't heard of Nice Subscriptions, but don't take that as a bad thing at all.. just not versed on all the different sub options out there.

2) Unfortunately, you can't do that with the Facebook Comments widget. Facebook will allow anyone to post a comment in their comment box if they are currently logged into Facebook. That's true even if they haven't logged into your site. Facebook doesn't want the comment feature to be restricted in any way as it's a great promotional tool and they don't want to get into a situation where people's speech is restricted in some way out of their control.

3) The FB Comments box can be restrictive if you don't want to use it how Facebook wants you to use it. There used to be a 'guest' option where anyone could post, but Facebook removed that a few years ago. Now, to post, the user must either have a Facebook, AOL, Hotmail or Yahoo account. If they aren't logged into Facebook, there can be an option (you can disable or enable) to login to those other 3 providers on the Comment box itself and the user can then comment that way. That login is not something you can use to register users on your site with those other providers, it just allows them to comment.

Hope that answers your questions, though the comment answers didn't really chime with what I think you were looking for. There are plenty of other features in JFBConnect, but, as always, if you can't get something going or aren't satisfied, we have a 30-day money back guarantee. So, if you aren't happy, no worries!

Best of luck,
Alex

Alex,
Thanks for the reply! Looks like I'm going to have to re-evaluate how I'm going to integrate Facebook into my site. A few more questions (even though I already bought your product)

4) Could it be set up so if a Facebook user that registered on my website comments on an article, that user automatically shares that article on their FB wall? If they don't have FB, what about Tweet it?

5) Not sure if you can, but can you point me to some sites or users that you know of that have integrated JFBConnect and OSE Membership? (I'm pretty sure I'm going with OSE)

Feel free to ask as many questions as you need. That's what we're here for!

4) When a Facebook user (any user, not just ones that have registered on your site) comments on an article, the article and their comment is almost always posted back to their Facebook wall. There is specifically a little box on the Comment widget for "Post this to my wall" that the user can use to push it there and it's checked by default on most sites. Facebook can decide not to check it by default depending on a lot of factors though, just so you know.
There is no way to Tweet the message/article automatically. Facebook and Twitter aren't always the best of friends :D

5) I really don't have any great information on many sites that use OSE membership and JFBConnect. Doing a quick Google search, I found the last user that I think we helped with some issues back in April. None of the problems were OSE Membership related, that I could tell. The post is:
www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect/jf...-not-working-with-ie

And their site page is:
www.alietuvis.us/
If you click the "Prenumerata" link in their main menu, you'll see the subscription options. The JFBConnect Login button is on the left sidebar. I honestly don't know how the integration between the two works, so I can't state what it does, but they are both on that site and have been for many months.. so I'm assuming it works :)

Hope that helps,
Alex

I'm not sure if I was specific enough with my idea. Since I want to have as many users as possible on my site, I've decided not to use the FB comment system and will stick with either stock Joomla or K2 comments. In either event, if a user posts a comment, and they are registered to my site using JFBConnect, can it be setup to have the article shared on their wall since the comment wouldn't be? Same thing with Twitter users (it'll tweet a link to my site)?

T.J.,
Sorry for the delay! The short answer is "not yet". With the upcoming JFBConnect v4.3 release, we're adding Open Graph Actions, which are 'events' on your site that can be automatically pushed to a user's timeline. We'll be adding a plugin that works with K2 to add events like "John read an article" and "John commented on an article" that can automatically be pushed to the user's timeline.

The user doing the actions will need to have registered on your site using Facebook (which gives the permission to post timeline events on their behalf). So, it won't happen for every user, but is a good easy way to automatically post things.

As for doing it automatically (or even manually) for other users, we don't have anything like that built in. With some Javascript, you could call a function of JFBConnect that could present a popup to the user to post something to Facebook. You could attach this to an event, like hitting the submit button on the comment form, but it would take a little bit of development. It also may jar the user if they just want to submit a comment.

Hope that helps with some answers and maybe some ideas. If you have any other questions, feedback, or suggestions, just let us know!

Thanks,
Alex
