hello,
when I'm registered as a normal joomla/jomsocial user can I invite my facebook friends with your module?
Or do I need to login at joomla with a facebook account.
The reason is: When you have a site running which only has "regular" users they won't change to a facebook user. But also most of them have a facebook account so invitation would be nice.
Also one more thing: why should I choose your product instead of the free jomsocial facebook connect - what benefit do I have?

The Invite module let's anyone who's logged into Facebook invite their friends, regardless of whether they're logged into your site. There's some minor updates coming to the Invite module, which will improve some of the flow shortly, because now, there are times when the user has to be logged into your site.. just so you know.

As for improvements, our feature matrix at the link below should describe the benefits best. Also, check out our reviews on the JED, of which many talk about how they like our system over JomSocial's. In general though, here's some key points:
* 1-click registration (no registration forms), if you want to enable that
* Post to Facebook wall on registration or login
* Customizeable profile import into JomSocial - you can select fields from Facebook that will be 'mapped' to a user's profile, so they don't have to fill out bio, interests, location, etc
* More social modules (Comments, Like, Activity Stream, Invite)
* It works :)

JED listing:

Hope this helps, and good luck!

thanks alzander for your reply.
Let me ask you 2 more things:
1 - is there german language available and included? I don't want to spend money and after this doing translation ;-)
2 - I checked your invite at the demo page - there it's only possible to invite 35 friends maximum. will this be changed in the new version? I think when I use such a nice module then I probably want to invite as much people as I want - or even everyone at my friends list, so I don't want to be limited by this module.

1) There is a German language file included for the strings that JFBConnect outputs. However, there's actually only about 20 strings we use, so it's not overly burdensome if you need to change anything. As for the social plugins (Comments, Like, etc), we instruct Facebook to translate those based on the language of your site, so you shouldn't have any issue with those either.

2) Facebook determines how many people a user can invite. This is strictly up to them, and is based on many factors including the user sending the invites, how many have been sent in the past, what's normal for the application, how many friends they have, etc. This is all done to prevent using the invitation logic to spam other Facebook users. We've seen it as low as 20 and as high as about 100 before. However, there's absolutely nothing we can do to increase this number. It does reset after some period (1 day or so), so you can invite many people, but just not all at once (again.. spam).

Hope that helps, and good luck!

thanks for your quick response. I really have a god feeling with your site ;-)
but you say that the invitation maximum depends on facebook? I can't agree with that. I already use inviteX from techjoomla ( I think you'll know this) - it has a real bad design so I would prefer yours, but at inviteX there's absolutely NO limitation. my friends tested it and were able to invite 500/600 friends with one click.
I hope you get this done - becuase the rest of your module sounds really good.

We haven't used the InviteX extension specifically, but our knowledge of it is that it's an email inviter and doesn't use Facebook directly to perform the invitations. You specify email addresses, and maybe it can import friends from Facebook, but can't really tell. Either way, the invitations don't look to be sent through Facebook's system.

The JFBCInvite module actually puts invitation requests into the user's notification area of their profile. This is done through Facebook's API, which they do limit however they want.

Hope that makes sense as to the differences. Again, haven't used InviteX, so if we're missing something, let us know.

Thanks!

well,
I'm not a coder so I'm sorry that I can't explain the technique behind this - but I know that the invitations are sent with facebook - means my friends get a pm at facebook with the invitation - not by email. I think there's also an option to send emails but the important thing was the facebook private message ;-)

No worries. That's interesting to know, and thanks for pointing it out. We'll have to investigate further, but for now, our invite module is limited by Facebook.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Alex,

Re the modification to improve the flow you refer to in this thread: has this already been made for JFBCInvite v3.2.2?

I am asking because I have this exact same problem in this last version v3.2.2: I can only invite someone via Facebook when I am logged into my site with a user that has registered via JFBCLogin. A user that has registered to my site via CBLogin can't invite anyone using JFBCInvite :( Also visitors to my site who have not signed up themselves can't invite anyone. Tested extensively on Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and IE.

Please note that JFBConnect is still on v3.2.1, JFBCLogin is still on v3.1.1, Authentication Plugin on v3.1.0, System Plugin 3.1.2, and User Plugin on 3.1.0. This is because there is a number of changes we made manually for other issues per your past recommendations which we'd all have to merge when updating.

I guess the ability to invite someone does not depend on the versions of these other plugins. I just wanted to mention it for sake of completeness.

Looking forward to your response. Thank you,
Oliver

Oliver, no the updates for the Invite module haven't been implemented yet. However, we can easily give you a minor code change to show the Invite module to any Facebook user, not just ones that have approved your application. If you want, please post a question in the support area. This thread is already getting long, and somewhat unrelated. We should be able to help you out with your request pretty easily though.

Thanks!
