We purchased a Comodo EssentialSSL Certificate about 3 weeks ago, and had it installed on our Joomla! 2.5 site - which can be accessed here --> faithradio.fm. Our SSL certificate's configuration can be verified here --> www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=faithradio.fm. Despite this, we're still getting "A valid SSL certificate was not detected on your server." errors when attempting to configure the Canvas and Page Tab in our Joomla! site. I have tried everything suggested in all of the "SSL not working/detected"-related posts on this forum and nothing seems to be working. Please Help!

I think you have a server configuration issue on your site. The Autotune tool remotely fetches your site as if it's a 'real' user, and for some reason, that request is being denied. Using a variety of 3rd party remote checking tools, you can see similar results:
Work for both http and https:
web-sniffer.net/
www.internetmarketingninjas.com/header-checker/

Does not work for https.. works for http
tools.seobook.com/server-header-checker/
www.webconfs.com/http-header-check.php

I would recommend contacting your hosting company or investigating why your site is denying some requests over https.

Beyond that, I will tell you that I ran the same Autotune checks against the non-https version of your site. All tests passed. So, even though the test won't work for you, you can safely skip it and move on.. though I'd still look into the above.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Thanks-so-much for this feedback Alex. I somehow didn't even see this response until receiving your reply to the message I sent to you via your Contact Us form. I'll take a closer look at our site's SSL certificate, and will follow back up should I have any more questions or concerns.

Thanks!

No problem! It's what we're here for. We'll hopefully have our SSL certifications updated shortly so that our Autotune tool can recognize yours. The problem seems to be 100% on our end, we just need to get a new list of valid certification agencies installed on our server, which can be a pain sometimes.

Thanks, and good luck,
Alex

Alex:

I now seem a bit confused. As your original post reflects, it appeared as though there was (and possibly still is) a issue with our server's SSL certificate, and how it's installed/configured on our server. Due to that response, I was just now gearing up to dive into the issue and attempt to resolve it myself (before getting my hosting company involved in the mix), but checked this post beforehand. In your most recent post however, it seems as though you're now eluding to the fact of the issue being "100% on your end," and that your severs simply needed to be updated with a new list of valid certification agencies. If this is the case (and the root of why AutoTune fails to recognize our server's SSL certificate), I don't want to open up a can of worms that may not even be warranted.

So do I still need to investigate this matter more (on our end) and take a closer look at our SSL certificate's configuration, or should I wait till you guys update your list of valid certification agencies to see if that indeed fixes the problem? I don't want to potentially cause another problem while attempting to fix a problem that may not even be a problem needing to fixed (on our end), know what I mean?

Please advise so I'll know which direction and approach to take here...

Thanks again.

Sorry for the confusion! Now, I think I'm confusing myself a bit.

So, there are 2 issues at play:
1) Our site can't validate your certificate. This is almost certainly due to our certificate authorities file simply isn't up to date. Certificate authorities change all the time, and it's a pain to keep up with them.
2) The web checker tools I listed above are also having problems. Usually those tools are able to fetch any page, so that *could* indicate a problem with your server, but I honestly can't be sure why they aren't fetching your site.

With all of that said, I just white-listed your URL in Autotune so that we'll respond as though you have an SSL certificate no matter what. Again, I'm pretty sure that most of the issue lies on our server. However, a double check (search for "Header checker" in google and try out multiple tools) couldn't hurt on your end.

Please let us know if you still have issues with Autotune. The whitelist should take effect immediately, but if not, let us know and we'll work through it.

Thanks,
Alex

Cool Beans Alex, thanks for laying things out for me like that... I was just able to use AutoTune to enable the SSL-related 'Page Tab' and 'Canvas' features of our JFBConnect extension, so thanks-so-much for white-listing our URL as you did. I'll continue to investigate this matter via other header checking tools (as you suggested), and see what I come up with. In the meantime though, I'm glad we were able to get passed this issue so I can continue developing our Facebook app as needed.

I can't thank you enough on the help and assistance you've provided me with here. Talk about STELLAR CUSTOMER SUPPORT! :3 D

I'm officially HOOKED, on the product AND the support. Keep up the great work!

No problem for the help. Autotune isn't meant to get in the way, like it did for you. We just try to make sure it provides the best suggestions for every site that it's used on.. in your case, we encountered a hiccup, but I'm glad we could work around it.

I hope you don't run into anything else, but of course if you do, you know where to find us. We'd love any feedback, comments or suggestions you may have for general improvements as well.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Alex,

I'm having the same issue, we get the following message in AutoTune:

"A valid SSL certificate was not detected on your server."

Hosting is with SiteGround and SSL was also provided and configured by them. Site can be accessed via https with no problem. Tested with web-sniffer.net/

Can you get back to me on this?

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,
That's strange. I actually just tested Autotune with your URL and it was able to detect your SSL certificate just fine for me. All the recommendations returned were correct and included https:// where possible.

Can you try running the FB App section again and clicking the "Refresh" button to make sure you're fetching the latest settings? If you still get the same message, we'll gladly whitelist your URL as well.. it just shouldn't be necessary from what we're seeing.

Thanks,
Alex
