I am testing the JFBContent plugin's social sharing facilities and have the following questions:
1. Is it possible to have all buttons in a row? For some reason the FB buttons always go below the others (1+, Twitter, LinkedIn). This takes more space and looks a bit messy.

2. When 1+, Twitter, LinkedIn are disabled the FB buttons render correctly. But when the non-FB buttons are enabled they appear on TOP of menus. Why is that? How to avoid it? I have attached a screenshot of the issue.

3. When I enable all options (including show faces) no faces show. It also says "Be the first of your friends to like this page" although I have several FB-friends who LIKE's it. Even though I have entered facebook APP-id + Secret key it seems like it does not link to the right FB page. I can find no place to enter a direct link to the page: www.facebook.com/pages/Occupy-World-Street/290485587651198
The other JFB modules (JFBFan for instance) allows on to enter a link and it works fine. What am I doing wrong?

4. When selecting "LIKE" and then clicking "Cancel" nothing happens. The only way to get out of the dialog is to Re-Click the "Like" button. Not very intuitive. Took me a while to figure out. Is this per design?

I have enabled the social buttons on the following page for you to test it: www.occupyworldstreet.org/about-ross-jackson

Hop to hear from you soon.
Regards, Rolf

Rolf,
1) For the alignment of the buttons, first, make sure you update to 4.1.2 of JFBConnect. Then, when you're adding the tags, check out the forum post below which answers how to do it properly:
www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect/jf...functions?p=1#p18741

2) Usually, the issue is caused by the z-index setting of the buttons and your menu. You can fix by editing:
/templates/owsgaia_3col/css/template.css
Around line 596, you'll see .art-nav. The z-index there is set to 100. Change it to 101

3) The Like button is per-page, not for your whole site. Are you sure your friends have liked that exact page/URL?

4) The Close button works for me (I don't see Cancel at all). Can you tell me what browser you're using and check that you're actually seeing "Cancel"? If it is ian issue, unfortunately, it's likely a bug with Facebook's Javascript and not something we can fix.. though we can submit a bug report.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Thanks for your reply.

Re (1): I have updated JFP. It didn't work immediately, but I have not given it a lot of attention. Adding the said text everywhere I want the buttons is very inconvenient. I was looking for a central place to control this. It should be simple for you to do from the control panel. The reason I chose JFB was because of the flexibility in managing display centrally. Is there somehow to do this now or must I wait for a future release (or give up my hope on that account?)

Re (2): The Z-issue is resolved as you prescribed. Thanks.

Re (3): My fault. Sorry you are right!

Re (4): I have included a screenshot. The button says "Anuller" shich is Danish for "Cancel". I assumed you would see the english equivalent. What do you see? I am using Firefox 9.0.1

I reply today would be appreciated greatly as I am trying to wrap this up.

Tx, Rolf

One more thing. On www.occupyworldstreet.org/ows-the-book/reviews I have enabled the plugin SP-Share. I find the layout neat because the buttons a similar-sized, a bit smaller and all in a row. Unfortunately the lack of control of where the buttons go makes it not-so-handy in practice.

Would it be possible to achieve this look with your far more accomplished component. (you are getting a bit of sincere flattery here.. :o) )

Rolf,
I just added a new post the to thread I mentioned above with a different solution that may be easier for you. It's a style you can add to your template to make them always go horizontal.. we hope :)

4) There was no screenshot attached. After you upload them, you have to hit the checkbox to insert them into a post. My guess is that it's simply a translation issue between what Facebook calls "Close" in English and what they put for Danish, so I don't think you need to post the screenshot anyways.
I see the code in English. Do you have the Language Switcher plugin for Joomla enabled? If so, JFBConnect uses that to detect the user's language and load the correct Javascript library. It seems to work for me in English using Chrome. Will test in Firefox in a bit.

As for the SP-Share, we haven't used it, but the output looks very similar to what our content plugin does by default. Have you tried configuring the automatic insertion of the social buttons in the "Social Configuration" area of JFBConnect? It lets you select which buttons to show and what size they should be.. and they are automatically put in a line :)

Hope that helps,
Alex

Re: Button. Yes, Close would be it. And it doesn't CLOSE. That's the point.

I em trying to configure the buttons from the backend in "JFB->Social->Content Plugin-Like"

There is no options for size, as far as I can tell (would be great though) and the default layout is not in line (not on my site at least).

Tried changing the layout a bit (box instead of standard and width=800) just to test it. But I still see it in two rows. The bottom row has a "Like" box and the rest is above. Layout is identical in Chrome and Firefox.

Is there something I am missing here? Is there a size spec somewhere.

Tx

Can you link to a page on your site that's using the Content Plugin to add the social buttons? They should definitely be in a line. If you're using a width of 800 though, that may be the problem. Try "50" or even smaller. If it's to large, that will make the Like button wrap to the next line (if there aren't 800 pixels left to show it on the current line).

As for sizing, I guess we don't give the specific option of "size", but we do give the different layouts of standard, box, etc. Those are all that are available from each of the networks, and they don't allow much additional styling flexibility.. so that's what I meant when I said size.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Tx. Setting width=50 made them align in a row. I am wholly confused what this width specifies though. I had set it to the width of my sheet (500) and it wrapped. You ought to make a little clearer to what this width refers and what it does.

Other issues: When using the box-count the "Like" button ends up on a row by it self regardless of the Width property.
I cannot get it to show up in category view although the category is enables: Example: www.occupyworldstreet.org/ows-the-book

In the right and left columns are Newsflash modules that display short text drawn from categories. When I enable Sharing on these categories I get the share buttons in my panes as well, which looks a bit overwhelming. Is there a way to avoid that?
To be clear: I want the buttons in the proper page, i.e. The quote like here: www.occupyworldstreet.org/ows-the-book/q...is-probably-too-late But not on the other pages where it is displayed in the pane.

Your frontpage option removes these buttons from the panes on the frontpage alright (and everywhere else on the frontpage).

Suggestion: Make a way for the user to control which buttons appear when text is not on a page of its own. Perhaps 1-2 buttons would be OK discrete. But all of them and it becomes a mess.

Thanks fro your kind assistance.

Rolf,
I definitely see where the confusion is coming from. The width is actually the width of the Like button only. It's poorly labeled because since we added that setting, we added the other social buttons, but didn't update the description. The width also should really only do anything in the 'standard' layout, because that can be variable width. The other's are fixed widths, and we should simply ignore that setting. I've added a bug to our tracker to clear that all up in an upcoming release.

As for the button not showing up in the category view, what kind of menu item is that? We support Joomla Content and K2 content by default. If other extensions use core-content for display and call the Content Plugins, we should support them as well. My guess is that whatever extension you're using there does not (or is not configured to) load content plugins. You may need to contact that developer to see how to enable content plugins in their category views.

For the Newsflash modules, there's no way to stop that by default. The Newsflash module calls the Content Plugins to alter the text however the plugins need too. You'd need to use another Newsflash-like module that allows you to disable the Content Plugins from activating. I don't know of any offhand to recommend, but I do know they are out there.

Regarding the Front-Page, that's a limitation of how Joomla works. When Content plugins are called, we're given limited information about the state of the page. We simply check if the page is the front-page, and if so, we don't load. There's not a way to check if we're being called in a module (like the Newsflash), so our hands are a bit tied to allow some front-page content, but not others.

Hope that all explains, but if you have other questions, just let us know!
