Mr. Steele,
The avatar is being replaced with the default avatar by the "User - Welcome Message" plugin. Not sure what that is, but when I disable it, my avatar isn't erased. I took a quick look at the code for that, and honestly can't see where it's resetting the avatar, but it must be in there somewhere.

If you have more info about the plugin (if you absolutely need it to work on your site), let us know it, and we can investigate more. If not, I'd suggest just leaving it disabled.

As for why you're seeing this in 4.0, it's because we changed the login flow to be much more compatible with a lot of plugins and Joomla-right in many ways. The registration flow was a little odd before for when we triggered the User plugins to do their thing, and it looks like the Welcome Message plugin is a casualty of this change.

Let us know how your testing goes, or if you have any other info/thoughts.

Thanks,
Alex

thanks alex,
at least we know now where the error is coming from. The welcome plugin is a really simple thing: it sends my new user a private message introducing the moderator and giving some site specific informations - and to be honest it is needed ^^
I don't have specific informations about the code itself, I only know that it contains only 2 or 3 files - so really simple.
they have a new beta since last week - I'll try if this versions works with jfbc and get back to you.

hello alex,
have you found a solution for the conflict - or does perhaps 4.0.2 solve it?

4.0.2 won't fix it. We haven't had time to look into the other extension yet to see what they're doing that resets the avatar. Getting 4.0.2 out was our priority, as well as any forum issues that could be fixed in that release. Since this didn't fall into that category, it's lower on the priority schedule.

We'll be looking into it mid this week. If you haven't already, you may want to contact the developer of that extension and see if they know of any reason it would reset the user's avatar.

I'll definitely let you know what we find though later in the week,
Alex

the plugin developer fixed the issue and released a new plugin version. he says this problem was a really simple cache refresh issue.
Everything's working now - so you don't need to get into this.

Fantastic. Thanks for letting us know that it's updated and that we don't need to do anything. We like that :)

Good luck,
Alex
