Hi guys, Hi Alex,
just to be sure... Following this topic: www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect-9-...828-instagram-add-on
About the developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-basic-display-api/

You wrote: "...Regarding Instagram specifically, Facebook (the owners of Instagram) no longer allow Instagram to be used for authentication. Instead, they want you to use Facebook login. While Instagram authentication technically still works, we don't recommend it either as they are slowly breaking it. The Instagram integration is mainly for some of the widgets that Instagram supports, like oEmbed for showing an Instagram image in your content..."

With "...FB no longer allow Instagram to be used for authentication. Instead, they want you to use Facebook login...", Do you mean during  the JFBConnect registration proces OR also during the Login process (connecting Instagram Profile to Joomle User) ?

I mean, Are you suggesting to stop to use Instagram JFBConnect feature to automatically create Joomla Users during registration and continue to use it for Login to connect the Instagram profile
OR to stop to use the  Instagram JFBConnect feature for both (Registration and Login) ?!?

Many Thanks for the help in understanding :)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this.

Yes, we recommend no longer using Instagram for user creation and as the primary means for a user to login to your site.

We don't expect Facebook to remove the ability to login with Instagram at all. There are a lot of features that a user needs to authenticate with to then 'do' something through the API. However, most of those features are meant for administering an Instagram profile. They specifically do not recommend using it for authenticating a user to a website for the purposes JFBConnect has used it for. Instead, they recommend using Facebook's own authentication services.

We will still keep Instagram integrated within JFBConnect for the users that have it setup or want to use it, but we don't recommend it being the primary method for authentication. We are always integrating new features that we could integrate into Instagram as well, like pushing and pulling content (which authentication can be used for).

I hope that helps answer your question, but if you need anything else, just let us know!

Thanks,
Alex
