Note the @VERSION@ - guessing your preprocessor misssed the replacement?

Um. Yeah, that's a bug :) We switched our build system this release to a newer automated system. It's responsible for those replacements. We'll check it out.

I'm guessing that's also the parse error in my other report.

Logically, when you fix that, and the version bumps to a 9.x, an upgrade will really be a replacement-in-place and fix the problem.
