JFBConnect v7.1 - Twitter Email Import, User Groups, Joomla 3.6.x Improvements and More!

We're very proud to announce that JFBConnect v7.1 is now available for the best Joomla social networking integration around. This release focused on improved registration flows, enhanced Twitter support and Joomla 3.6.x compatibility updates. Of course, there were numerous minor bug-fixes and features scattered throughout to improve social network integration for everyone.

Registration Group Selection

Until now, all users that register with a social network were placed in the default user group for your site. While this worked for the vast majority of sites, many admins wanted the flexibility to add users that register with a social network into a custom group. This allows a lot of new options to understand how users are registering on your site, display different modules to them, import more data into their profile and really customize the site for users that you know came from a social network instead of registering normally.

Twitter Email Import / Automatic Registration

Since Twitter started allowing social registrations, more than 5 years ago, there was one thing they never allowed to be fetched from a user's profile: their email address. Because of this, JFBConnect has always forced users registering through Twitter to go through a mini-registration process so they can provide their email address.

No more! Earlier this year, Twitter unveiled a new API which allows fetching the user's email address and JFBConnect v7.1 supports it. Now, your Twitter users while have a 1-click registration experience and you'll get their social network email address automatically!

Improved Twitter Card Support

JFBConnect has always had very robust Open Graph support for describing your pages to Facebook. In v6.x, we started adding some Twitter Card support, but the tags would always match what you set for Facebook and there was not support for additional card types, like Creator, the card type and other Twitter-specific meta data.

Now, in the new "Social Meta" configuation area, you can quickly specify some default values for setting up Twitter Card data across your site and use the same Easy-Tags to customize tags on a per-page basis. Managing social meta tags on your Joomla site can be one of the most powerful things you can do for improved user engagement, and it just got a whole lot easier with JFBConnect v7.1.

Of Course There's More Under the Hood

Beyond the above great features, there's been a lot of work on improved compatibility with Joomla itself, 3rd party extensions, and the social networks themselves, including:

  • Joomla 3.6.x compatibility updates, with some specific improvements for 3.6.4 routing issues
  • Social Meta - Setting to prevent multiple og:image tags ensuring the best one is always used instead of letting Facebook choose
  • New Facebook Quote widget - Let your users select specific text from a page and immediately post it to their Timeline
  • Multiple fixes for jReviews conflicts
  • Multiple fixes for social networking auto-posting issues reported by some users
