Topic-icon Config docs for login / registration links on your web site?

Hello Alex,

I have placed SCLogin in the position top-4 at drcarney.com but do not have it visible now because I was not able to make it show up with just the two words "Login" and "Registration". I want to have a modal window for the open for the login that works like yours. I also might want a modal window for registration.

Currently I have a menu in top-4 that has a Login and Registration link but those are linked to the standard Joomla Login and Registration. I want to remove those and replace them with yours.

I assumed that the way to accomplish my goals was to place the module in top-4. I have been able to get it to display there when I add options to display the Welcome Message or the Connect to texts. But, I want this to be very simple. Basically just two text based links to bring up the modal buttons.

Is there documentation anywhere. I have looked but not found it. Also, I realize from reading some of the other messages here in this forum that some css on my page could be causing the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any documentation anywhere that would show me how you set you the Login / Registration links that change to the My Account menu upon logging in?

Thank you,

Sean,
Sorry for the delay.

First, there is no option for a modal registration popup. That is something we have planned, but it's just not available yet.

For displaying the links and modal like on this site, in the SCLogin parameters, set the following values:
Display Type: Modal Popup
Modal Style: Text (this is what create text links instead of buttons)

There isn't a way, currently, to set the Login and Register links into a menu item. It's a module and isn't part of a menu. Not sure if that's what you're asking, but it kinda of sounded like it. The links we have in the top right are just that, from the module itself and not displaying as part of a Joomla configured menu. The "My Account" link *is* a Joomla menu that's selected from the "Show User Menu" setting in SCLogin. Basically, once logged in, whatever menu you set in the "Show User Menu" will show instead of the login/register buttons.

I hope that explains. We are working on a huge revamp of our JFBConnect documentation (for the upcoming v5.1 release) and creating a lot of docs for the SCLogin module. It's grown rapidly over the last few months due to user feedback and since we made it freely available. Now that it's mostly settled (feature wise), it's time to create those docs.

Finally, regarding Brodie, I used to live in Austin but moved to Florida about a year ago. Loved Texas, but got too hot for me in the summer's and needed a change :)

Thanks, and sorry for the delayed response,
Alex

Thanks. I tried those settings and was able to successfully get the "Login / Registration" Text links to appear. Interestingly they appeared aligned to the left in my position no matter where I place the module in the order of the four modules I have placed in the position top4. I wanted to get SCLogin to the right like on your site. :-)
also, when I enable the SCLogin module it throws the alignment of my other top4 position modules off by either pushing them above or below their current alignment.

I also was not able to get my site to resolve the SCLogin urls: drcarney.com/login#login-modal, drcarney.com/#login-modal and drcarney.com/registration#login-modal

So, I am thinking I can probably do without the SCLogin as long as I can get the regular Joomla Login and Registration links to display the Facebook and LinkedIn links. Currently they are not showing at the registration page at www.drcarney.com/registration

I am also having an odd problem where sometimes the LinkedIn button is not on the core Joomla login page and instead I am seeing the code {JLinkedIn} displaying on the page where the button should be. I will keep playing to see if I can figure out what is causing that. It is placing the LinkedIn button below instead of to the right. That is probably set in the JFBC Connect Component?

My template leave much to be desired so I may again now use this feature as great as it is.

I will look forward to seeing the documentation you are working on. Right now it seems like so many components are building in their own Social Networking. I am thinking maybe that I have to figure out how to turn them all off and then enable your modules instead. This would be for K2 and EasyBlog in this particular web site.

I can certainly understand moving to Florida to escape the Texas heat. I was in Orlando last week and even there is was cooler than in Austin. :-)

It sounds like you're giving up on the SCLogin module. I'm sorry to hear that, but I understand. If you ever want to swing around to it again, we'll gladly help solve any of the issues you're having.

Check if you have the System - Cache plugin enabled. If so, move it to the last ordering (highest number) and clear your cache... or, disable it temporarily.

As for the location, we simply add it to the bottom of the login page automatically. If you want it somewhere specific, you'd need create a template override and add the login button wherever you want it. Our 'automated' system is effective, but not necessarily perfect for every user.

Yeah, it's interesting times. It's very easy to add a lot of simple features, but we'll always have the really advanced integration with more cool stuff coming soon. Just like every extension (or Joomla itself), you use what you need and hopefully can disable whatever you don't :)

Orlando's the hot part of Florida too.. Not to say I'm out and about every day (it's always low/mid 90's).. but it is nice to at least be able to go out!

Hope the above helps,
Alex

Actually I would love to have your help. I still have it on my pages at drcarney.com set up and displaying in the top left corner. I wasn't able to figure out how to get it to display anywhere else actually and still be in the 'top4' position. Is there a secure way for me to give you administrator access to look? What I was thinking was to put it at the top right but the top left would be OK by me. For some reason the SCLogin is realigning the other modules in the same position 'top4' and so if you had some css change I could add to my custom.css file to level them off I would be grateful. Basically the other modules are being pushed down. Although depending on the order of the modules in 'top4' the other modules can get pushed up or even split onto two rows.

I also would like to create a menu for where you have the My Account menu. I have not decided which links to put in that menu yet but am sure there are some like the Profile and Logout links. But, I would also try to see if I could find a way to link to their comments in K2 or EasyBlog which both use Komento.

Actually the recommendations for you from StackIdeas is what got me to finally decide to go with your software! I do hope that you are working with them to be able to work with their new EasySocial that is soon to launch since I plan to use it for my next site.

BTW, I also have implemented the login automatically with Facebook and also with LinkedIn and it works but I think for testing the SCLogin module I will disable that until we have the Login / Registration links working and the login with Facebook and LInkedIn buttons working on the regular Login and Register pages.

Check if you have the System - Cache plugin enabled. If so, move it to the last ordering (highest number) and clear your cache... or, disable it temporarily.

I think that I have it correct now. I did have the System - Cache loading before System - JFBCSystem. At least I think so. In Joomla 3.1 I no longer see the numbers so I know that I have System - Cache as either the last or the first. :-)

Maybe you can give me an idea of how to put in an override that would put the two buttons on the same line? I would also LOVE to get the two buttons to display on the regular Registration page.

Sean,
Sorry for the delayed response.

For the top4 position, it looks like the alterations to the component that the SCLogin module tries to make aren't working which is why the modal popup isn't working. Again, this should be fixed in the next release of the SCLogin module due out next week.

As for the other modules being moved around, I'd have to see this in action to understand the cause. I'm not even sure from your template what the 'top4' position is. Every template is different, so I just don't know the answer from your description. If you can enable the module in the top4 position on some interior page (so that it's not likely many users would see it) and send the URL, we'll gladly look into the cause on that page. If the position it's already in in top4, can you let me know what's being shoved around and/or how it should look (a picture would be great).

For the User Menu, you simply need to create a menu in the Joomla admin area. Then, in the SCLogin module under "Logout View Options" set the "Show User Menu" setting to the menu you created. That will then show whatever menu items you configured in the Menu Manager. It should (hopefully) be that simple.

System Cache
Glad you got that going. The System Cache plugin can cause a lot of issues with many extensions, not just ours, if ordered wrong.

Maybe you can give me an idea of how to put in an override that would put the two buttons on the same line? I would also LOVE to get the two buttons to display on the regular Registration page.

I hate to keep saying wait, but I think this will be much easier with JFBConnect v5.1. With that, you'll be able to add the {JFBCLogin} tag and it will automatically show the prettier image-button login buttons for Facebook, G+ or LinkedIn. They will also default to being horizontal (as well as responsive so they can go vertical if necessary). While you can do it now, you'd likely need to make some updates in a week with that release. If it's urgent, I can gladly help you now.. otherwise, just respond here in a week and we'll give you all the details you need.

Finally, for EasySocial, we're very excited and fully planning to support it with Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn integration over the next few months. We've been knee-deep in JFBConnect v5.1 right now, but once that's released, we're going to be pestering the StackIdeas guys to get us a copy and let us play :)

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex,

Your idea was good just to work this all out on one page so I have placed it at
www.drcarney.com/help/participation/live...den-valley-institute

Regarding seeing how the "Login / Register" module moves the other modules in the top4 position you can see the difference between the page that we have the module placed on and all the other site pages. The top4 position is the top row above the site banner.

However, I also think it makes sense for us to just wait until you launch version 5.1 and then go from there.

I am really glad you will be working with EasySocial. I like StackIdeas software and support!

There's a few options for making the module float left like you're looking for. The first (and best) is to use the "Module Class Suffix" setting in the SCLogin module (It's in the advanced parameters, I think) and add " pull-left". You don't need the quotes, but please make sure there is a leading space.

That will make the SCLogin module float left in that position and leave the other modules in the same row.

Test that out and let me know how that goes. Hopefully, that's all there is to it!

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, that worked. I actually decided to try pull-right as that was more what I had envisioned and it worked well too. Now I have to figure some css to put in my custom.css file to change the colors for this module to match my other items in top4. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. that was nice and easy. :-)

I would sure like know how to add the Logout link to the My Account menu that I added for the My Account menu. I added a link to the Login page for now which displays a Logout button but that makes people make an extra click in order to logout.

I am sure it is an easy trick. :-)

Also, I tried to have the use the Mirror other module to copy teh settings used by one of the menus I have at the top. I was hoping that would make the login and register links use the same colors as the other menus.
