Updates DON'T Work! was created by stelee
Why is it that almost ALL updates to JFB result in an error such as this:

Error connecting to the server: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
Package download failed: www.sourcecoast.com/index.php?option=com...ownload&id=160&dlid=

The reason is that the Joomla Update Manager has no way to perform authentication to our site. We use the Update Manager as a tool to notify users of a new update, but it can't be used to perform the update itself.

With this latest release, we moved to a 1-file installer which should make things much simpler. We'll also be removing many/most of the update checks from the Update Manager in the future so that it only checks JFBConnect and not all of the individual modules/plugins. That should make things more tidy since it all comes in one file now (no installing each module with each release).

Later, we're planning to integrate an automatic updater into the admin area of the extension itself. We actually had one before, but it had it's fair share of issues and had to be disabled.

I hope that helps explain. As always, your feedback, comments and suggestions are welcome as they always help us produce a better product. v5.1.0 has huge usability and ease-of-use improvements in it, and there's more coming.
