The New Hide and Seek Toy

Everyone remembers playing hide and seek as a kid. It's a staple of childhood where, for years, it's a go-to game when there's more than one kid present. It's a game kids want to play and, frankly, for a parent, that time is magical. It's great seeing children run around, learning the pleasures of victory in finding that person hidden away in the toughest of spots, and the feeling of loss when their great spot isn't as amazing as they thought. Hide and seek is a game that teaches as much as it entertains. Children learn basic rules, thinking ahead and thinking through what others may be doing. It's a game of anticipation and smarts. In short, hide and seek is probably one of the best games for a toddler or school-aged child both for entertainment or developmental purposes.

With that rich history for a children's game, we're excited to be a part of the next evolution of it with The Countdown Game hide and seek toy. Countdown has been in development by the founders of SourcCoast since late 2018. The idea was born out of a lazy afternoon of games with our kids. Sebastian, then 7, came up with a unique way to hide a small remote control that would beep constantly. He would hide it and would have his siblings race around seeking it out wherever they could. Over time, that idea evolved into The Countdown Game, which takes the basics of hide and seek and expands on it. The toy is small enough to hide just about anywhere, preventing parents from ever having to hide behind a door or crammed under a bed again. Additionally, a timer is included to add a sense of pressure for the seekers to move as fast as they can. Finally, once found, a set of retro-inspired games must be completed to stop the timer. It combines all the best elements of hide and seek with the modern day gamer appeal.

While the rules were inspired by the classic hide and seek game, The Countdown Game is new in plenty of exciting ways. It's also been kid-tested through hundreds of hours of play-testing and has won multiple toy awards. If you're looking for gift ideas for kids 5-12, Countdown is an excellent choice!
