Hi, hope you can help me.
I have configured my Facebook App, called Surfsmart (domain: www.surfsmart.nl, Facebook namespace: surfsmart-canvas) and JFBConnect correctly (I think). I have made a separate template for the Facebook Page Tab and selected it in the 'Application as Page Tab' setting. My Page Tab is showing in the left column of Facebook. I have implemented this on our own Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/pages/Surfsmart-Communi...=app_357266080973994. However, when I click on it, in the main window, I see an error message "Server could not be found".
Similarly, when I click on the link of my Canvas App, apps.facebook.com/surfsmart-canvas/, I receive the same message.
My system info is:
JBFConnect Version: 4.1.2
PHP-version: 5.2.14
Webserver: Apache
Webserver to PHP-interface: apache2handler
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.25 Stable

I also have sh404SEF installed, perhaps this is the culprit?

Hello,
we suggest, disabling sh404SEF temporarily until you get everything working, and then I'll be sure problems are not cause by any misconfiguration of the JFBC extensions.
also, use this as guidance: www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/facebook-page-canvas-setup

Let us know if that worked out for you.

Sorry, I have deleted sh404SEF, but the App still doesn't show on the page. I may not have SSL correctly installed (hostng company does't allow certificates not purchased through them). Could this be the problem?

Paul,
The error I'm seeing is "The server at www.surfsmart.n can't be found, ..."

It looks like you're missing an "L" in your domain name at the end. Make sure that's configured properly in your Facebook Application for the Canvas and Page Tab URLs.

Oops, could it really be this simple? That would be somewhat embarrassing for me... :-) Unfortunately, I have corrected the address, but the problem remains. Also, changing the template to my site's default or the 'No override' setting doesn't make a difference. I still get the error 'The server at www.surfsmart.nl is taking too long to answer'. Sorry, hope you can offer another suggestion to fix this.
As I said, the site itself (www.surfsmart.nl) does not have an SSL certficate implemented. I did obtain one from RapidSSL, but my hosting company will not allow me to install this on my site. Could this be the problem?

Yes, the SSL certificate needs to be a valid certificate from one of the major authorities and must be for your domain "www.surfsmart.nl/". When I try to go to that address directly, I also get a "Page Can't be Found" error. I think you've correctly located the issue. Unfortunately, Facebook does require an SSL certificate for displaying your content within Facebook. This is not something that JFBConnect can work around at all.
