fb_xd_fragment with most of pages

The fb_xd_fragment is added by Facebook itself on pages as a way for you to detect when Facebook is scanning your page, or possibly someone from Facebook is redirected to your site due to a Like button or other link in their profile. There's no way to remove this, that I know of, as it's meant for you to be able to track these events.

It should not affect a user's visit in any way.

Are you actually seeing links around the web to this page? Like I said, to our knowledge, there shouldn't be any links on pages generated by this, just Facebook calling your page to get information. Therefore, if there aren't links, then there shouldn't be anyone using those links and then seeing a blank page. Hope that makes sense.

We've done a bit of investigation on this issue now, and know that it is indeed a bug in Facebook's library that they have a resolution for, but it isn't pushed out into the newest Facebook API library. It's in QA now, and hopefully will be released soon. For information from Facebook on the bug:

In the course of investigation, we found a few pages that have solutions for redirecting users who have somehow followed the link with that query string. We'll be testing the static channel one below, but do not have an ETA for a release of it as we haven't been able to see this issue negatively impact a site through real links being generated to these pages.

We haven't heard of this issue since this post was originally started, in November of last year.

The problem was occuring where Facebook was adding that xd_fragment string into some URLs which were then made public. Our understanding is that now, Facebook doesn't make these URLs public in a way that visitors should see them. Yes, if you go to a page and append ?fb_xd_fragment= to it, it still may come up blank, but visitors shouldn't see any links to these pages.

Are either of you seeing visible links to these pages that users are clicking on? We'd like to understand what the current issue is to help more.
