JFBCSend How to display in content page?

JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Hi,

How can I display the JFBCSend module as a plugin in to the content page, like in your example?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
this could be done in two ways:
* through the general JFBC settings, and set the SEND/SHARE button to appear on every content page
* with the JFBC Tags, you could add {JFBCSend} to a certain page

let us know if that helped.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

OK the tags is what I need, however, there must be a problem, because both {JFBCSend} and {JFBCLiveStream} send a message. What I want is to post on the friends' walls.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

You can't just post to a friends wall. That would be widely abused for spam. You can post to your wall, and it may show up in your friends feed. The Send button will only send private messages to the user and the Live Stream is more for a discussion on your site (but can also post to the current user's wall). There's no real way to post to a friends wall though.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

I don't think that posting to a friend's wall is a spam. It's a functionality that facebook allows. Since facebook has disabled the functionality to propose a page to a friend, how else can you do it?

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

The Send button allows you to send a page to a friend, and is what Facebook recommends if you want to share an article with a specific friend. It won't post to their wall, but they will get the notice.

There is not a way that I know of to post to a user's wall from a separate website. You can only do that through Facebook itself as they really want to protect user's walls from having unwanted posts going to them.. which then are seen by their friends.

Hope that makes sense, but if you need anything else, just let us know!

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

How do other applications do this? Like Castleville for example?

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

To my knowledge, the other apps that do this aren't going into the user's Wall, their going into their Feed, which is an aggregation of activity from the user's friends and activities.

Posting into a user's feed is done automatically by Facebook when you Like content or do something else (like Comment) that Facebook thinks is relevant to that user. There is no way that I know of to post into another user's wall, so that it's public to all of their friends as well, using the Graph API. There's no permission to do this either, because the permission would have to be from the friend who's wall is getting posted into. There is no "Allow me to post in all my friends wall" permission.

Hope that helps explain,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Alex, they do post in user's wall. Take a look at this: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= … mp;sk=wall
Look at all these users who post publicly into this users wall through Castleville. And it's not the only application that does it. This is just an example.
If you want to see the dialog they use, just subscribe to this application and play for a few minutes. It's like the dialog JFBConnect is using, however it posts on the wall.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Above, you said "What I want is to post on the friends' walls."

The picture you show is of the application (Castleville) only posting to the user's own wall (Olympia). None of those are from another friend playing Castleville and posting that their activity to Olympia's wall.

If you want to post activity to your own wall, we have functions to be able to do that. However, again, you won't be able to post into another user's wall like you mentioned above.

Hope that clarifies, but if not, let me know,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Alex, are you sure? Did you take a good look at it? Didn't you see the posts of:
Andriana Papadopoulou
Julian Bogus
Rozalia Kazeraki
etc?

They are all made through Casleville.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Gotcha. A few notes on that:
* There are no 'widgets' to do that. The Send button, the Like button, comment box, etc. Those are widgets provided by Facebook, of which there are none to post something to a users wall.
* You can do that programmatically. With a few lines of code, you can post to any of the user's friends walls. To do so:
1) You'd need to know the friends Facebook User ID. That can be obtained in a few different ways either by asking the user, or going through all their friends (again, using some code to get their friends names)
2) You'd need the 'publish_stream' permission. JFBConnect asks for this automatically if you have the post to wall on login or register set, but you can also add it to the 'Additional Permission Requests' box in the configuration area to make sure it's requested.

If you wanted to build a whole form to show to the current user with their friends in a drop down, you could do something like the below:
http://bobbelderbos.com/2011/08/example … ends-wall/

JFBConnect will help with a lot of this.. you'd only need to start from the "Post To Wall" section, and there are things that JFBConnect would make simpler in the code samples they provide. Just pointing this out to show you what could be done, but that it's also not something that's as easy as a {JFBCsomething} tag.

Hope that explains a little. If you have more information on what exactly you want to do, that may help... automated post to a friend's wall when they view a page, a way for a user to 'recommend' an article to a specific friend, etc

Thanks,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

I think the way {JFBCLiveStream} does the job (typing the friends' names one after the other) is a good way to do it.
But I was asking how to do it by using JFBConnect. I know there is a way to do it if I program all the code, but I do not have the time to do all the research.
That's why I ask if there is a way to do it by JFBConnect. I understand there is no way currently. Is it going to be implemented in the future and when?

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

No, JFBConnect doesn't have that ability built in. I'm still unsure exactly what you're looking for. It sounds like you want a drop-down to select the users friends. What do you want to send? Any articles on the site, a specific URL, or any component page from your site? Should the user be able to include a message, or would it be predefined? Any information on what you're shooting for would help.

JFBConnect doesn't do any of that, but knowing what you're looking for helps us think about how we could implement something. It's not something we're planning to do and it's not requested often, but we do implement ideas that are suggested if we think a) others would like it/use it and b) we can make it simple enough that it doesn't perplex the average user to implement it.

We do have plans later this year to implement the new enhanced Open Graph features which will let you (the admin) set specific events in a users timeline when they do things on your site (I read an article, Bob just responded in the forums, etc). That won't be the same as posting in a friends wall, but just wanted to let you know that we are looking into more 'pushing' of events back to Facebook.

Hope that explains,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

I thought I was clear. I want to propose a page (URL) to a friend or multiple friends, by posting into their walls. Adding a description is helpful but not mandatory.
However it is mandatory to have a report (an e-mail maybe) about the walls the URL is posted, with a date/time stamp and by which user.
This way I will know which facebook users support my site and propose it to their friends.
In essence I want a kind of propose this site to a friend functionality, since facebook has removed it.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

The devil, as they say, is in the details. You hadn't mentioned logging before. Doing that for each post, possibly with sending emails and other things, definitely take some effort to implement. Multiple friend select list also increases complexity.

Thanks for the description though. We've taken some notes on it and are always evaluating new ideas for future releases. Definitely appreciate the feedback, but I can't give any estimate or even guarantee that we'll implement this in the future.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Any "quick and dirty" solution without the logging?

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

With Facebook further and further restricting how pages are seen on a person's feed, I would LOVE to see a way to contact users directly on their own wall.

What I'd like to see is each time an action takes place on the website (new article posted, a new like clicked, a page recommendation sent from website) that each user who has authorized my fb application got something sent to them directly on their own wall, that an activity has happen, and that activity which is on their wall, would/could then be seen by whomever they are friends with.

Re: JFBCSend How to display in content page?

Nothing quick and dirty for this. We gladly help make changes to JFBConnect where it's easy to do, but getting a list of user's friends, showing it to the current user, possibly adding a comment box, and then calling back to JFBConnect to actually send the message would take a bit of work. That's not to mention some other automated details about the page, like title, description, etc as well as overall testing.

As Patrick mentions, Facebook is continuously trying to 'protect' users wall. Even the posts that do make it to the wall can easily be marked as spam. If too many of your posts get marked as spam, you're whole application can get banned. It can be very dangerous, actually, to do posts to other user's wall without a lot of monitoring to make sure it's not abused.

However, the new Enhanced Open Graph features that rolled out with the new Timeline stuff is something we'll be adding to JFBConnect later this year. That will allow you to add new user actions to the user's timelines. If your friends have Spotify, you know what I mean.. "Bob is listening to Simon & Garfunkel", etc. It's not in the Wall, but it's honestly where Facebook is trying to push the type of activity your talking about too.. When using Facebook, it's always best to do what they try to push you towards, even if it's possible to do it other ways.

Hope that all explains, but definitely interested in feedback,
Alex
