How do I "correctly" override the language file for the login module?

At the moment I stick "_old" on the existing en-GB.mod_sclogin.ini (just in case I need to revert back to it quickly) file then upload a modified version. However I am sure I am supposed to be able to do this by dropping en-GB.mod_sclogin.ini somewhere into the template folder.

I tried putting this file in /public_html/templates/protostar/language/en-GB but that didn't work. Do I need to write put the language override code directly into en-GB.tpl_protostar.ini assuming Protostar is the template I am using?

I went into Extensions > Language(s) > Overrides and set the new language strings in there which worked fine. However it would still be nice if I could simply FTP a modified language file.

You can directly edit the en-GB.mod_sclogin.ini files, but those may be overwritten as you upgrade.

The proper way to override any language strings is to use the admin area like you mention, which writes any overrides you create to the following file:
/languages/overrides/en-GB.override.ini
If you want to backup or FTP that file, you can easily do so to allow you to remotely edit.

That's the best way to override the strings of any extension.

I hope that helps,
Alex
