Topic-icon Different button possible?

10 years 7 months ago #36263 by chramb1
I've gotten more than just a few reports from my users that the "Facebook" button on SCLogin is confusing. They don't know what it is.

Is there a way to use an alternative button that says, perhaps, "Log in with Facebook" or something more descriptive?

Christopher,
We're investigating updating that button a little as well. There are a few options for what you can do though:
* Switch the Login Button Type to "Javascript", which says "Login with Facebook"
* Use the Custom Image option where you can choose your own image to use.. obviously, you'd need to create one to use or download one from somewhere.

I hope that helps, but if not, let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Switching to Javascript does exactly what I was after. Beautiful.

Now, while I've got you here (grin), how do I replicate your top-menu modal-popup login that you use on this site? It's gorgeous ;)

Christopher,
Glad that helped. What portion of the modal are you talking about? The actual popup, or the Login | Register text links, or something else?

The modal is a custom design, and the CSS is a little scattered, but mostly in our template.css file. You're free to copy it however you want, but we don't have template or setting to switch to our the layout we use here. Our popup is also not currently responsive. The SCLogin modal popup normally is. Our CSS on this site breaks the responsive-ness, for now, but we're going to be fixing that over the next week or so as well.

Hope that helps explain a little, but if you need anything else, let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Gotcha. My only complaint is that it's a module. I want to put a link that'll bring up the modal login someplace where putting a module breaks my display. Oh well.

Christopher,
I gotcha. You could actually do what you're looking for pretty easy, I think.. as long as you don't want it in a Joomla menu. Basically, you could implement the module and then hide the output using CSS.. the only output would be the Login button if you turn off all the other stuff.

Then, create a link wherever you want that has the exact same link as the Login button would.

That makes sense in my mind, but if it doesn't to you, let me know and I can help further.

Thanks,
Alex

Yup, I see where you're going. I could even do the hiding and link in a custom-html module, most likely. I'll play with this.

Yup, sounds like you got it. Keep me posted on how it goes. We do want to make it simpler to do what you're looking for, but it's difficult to do it in just a module since templates generally add a bunch of stuff around them. Even if we 'hide' the output, something will appear on the page..

Anyways, best of luck and if you get anything going and/or have any suggestions on improvements, we're all ears :)

Thanks,
Alex
