Using the modal popup currently requires the component output to already be created. If you're using the loadposition tag inside an article/component, the component output won't be ready yet, and will cause issues.

We're planning an update for later this month which will no longer require the component output for the modal to work. Until then, the modal simply won't work how you want. I'd keep an eye on our blog or newsletter for the next update and try then to do what you're looking for.
