Hey there,

When I log in via Linked In, I don't actually get logged in. A box asks me for authentication but then I am redirected to the login page.

Can you help me to understand how to fix this?

Many thanks.
Eoin

Eoin,
Not sure why that would be happening. Can you check:
* You have the JLinked Authentication, User, and System plugins enabled?
* If you have caching enabled, please disable (temporarily at least) and test again.
* If you have other user or authentication plugins not distributed with Joomla or with JFBConnect, try disabling them or ordering them after (higher number) than the JLinked ones.
* Along with the above, if you have any plugins that are meant to redirect the user after login, disable those. They can prevent the full login process from occurring, and cause what you are mentioning.

If none of that works, let us know, and we'll do what we can to help further.

Thanks,
Alex

Nope, none of those things worked. I can't think what would be causing a redirect? I think everything redirects to the homepage.

Once logged in, it shows a different set of menu items, i.e. guest profile vs logged in profile. That does seem to cause problems with other things sometimes.

Do you have any sort of browser caching enabled?

Can you post a URL where we can see the problem happening?

Thanks,
Alex

Eoin,
Sorry for the delays. I just tried registering on your site with LinkedIn, and when I did, I got the following error message:

Fatal error: Call to a member function checkAnswer() on a non-object in /home/ufmcom/public_html/libraries/cms/form/rule/captcha.php on line 52

Generally, JLinked shouldn't be calling your captcha extension. Do you have a 3rd party captcha extension installed, or are you using the Joomla 2.5 re-captcha extension? Either way, can you try disabling the captcha (temporarily) and see if that fixes your login problems? You can disable Joomla's captcha by:
* Going to Global Configuration and setting "Default Captcha *" to None
* Going to Users -> User Manager. Clicking "Options" and then setting "Captcha" to "None"

Let us know if that helps the situation and we'll gladly look into how to re-enable captcha (if necessary) or find other possible solutions.

Thanks,
Alex

I have done all of these things, including removing RS Forms capture plugin. Now I still can't login with Jlinked, but I am getting a heck of a lot of spam which I wasn't getting previously.

I need to have recapcha on.

What else can I try to resolve this? I don't mind taking it off temporarily but I need it on in the long run.

Definitely turn it back on! Wasn't trying to make you disable it permanently.

Can you let us know more about the captcha you're using? Is it the built-in Joomla captcha? Can you let us know what your settings are for the Captcha in Global Config and in the User Manager parameters? That will help us test and (hopefully) recreate the problem, if we can.

Thanks, and sorry for all the troubles. If possible, having admin access to your site may help speed things up for testing purposes, but we understand if you don't want to provide that info. If you do want to you, you can Private Message me by clicking the arrow under my picture (<----) and hitting the mail icon.

Eoin,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. We've tested a bit and can't recreate your problem. However, we'll explain our testing config and point out a few possible problem areas that you may be running into.

First off, captcha was first included in Joomla with version 1.7.3 (I believe). However, the first few revs of it was pretty buggy. The captcha that would be showing up on your registration is the integrated Joomla captcha, not the one built into RSForums (you mention this in your private message). So, we'll focus on the Joomla captcha.

If you're still using Joomla 1.7.x, I'd highly recommend upgrading. In addition to numerous security fixes, the captcha system has been improved. If you're using an earlier version of Joomla 2.5.x (up to 2.5.3, actually) and you had upgraded from 1.7.x, there was a separate bug regarding captcha when you upgraded between those revs. Again, I'd recommend going to 2.5.6 which should fix those problems.

Next, let's check your captcha config itself. If you want the captcha on registration, you should:
* Go to your Plugin Manager. Look for "Captcha - ReCaptcha". Edit it and make sure you've entered a Public and Private key.
* Go to Site -> Global Configuration. On the Site tab, for Default Captcha, set that to "Captcha - ReCaptcha"
* Go to Users -> User Manager. Click "Options"./ For Captcha, set it to "Use Default" or to "Captcha - ReCaptcha" (we used default for our testing, but both should have the same effect).

For testing only, set the Error Reporting in Joomla to 'maximum'. That will help locate any issues below easier.

To test, I'd recommend trying to go through the normal Joomla registration. You should see the captcha form. Test filling it out incorrectly to make sure you get a "Not allowed" message and then try correctly to make sure your account was created. If that doesn't work, you're probably affected by one of the bugs mentioned above. If you're on Joomla 2.5.6, let us know, and we'll try to help you debug that. If not, our only recommendation would be to upgrade.

Then, if normal Joomla registration works, then try the JLinked registration and see how that goes. Test the same way with a 'bad' captcha and a good one to see if everything works right. You shouldn't see any errors or unexpected problems.

Finally, set Error Reporting back to 'None' (the recommended value for a live site) and let us know how it all went. The captcha box should work with our registration flow, so if it's not, something is wrong, and we'll help you get it going!

Good luck,
Alex

Thanks for that, I will go through those logical steps and see what comes of it. (I think I am on the latest version of Joomla, if not I will be).

Gracias.
