Again problems with importing data to Jomsocial
I have the next problem. After installing all only a few fields are imported from LinkedIn. First Name, Last Name. But not things like Current position, Avatar, etc.
I tried the demo site here on this website and everything works OK here.
These things happens in Firefox
When I try to register in Safari, with the correct login, LinkedIn give back that the address is not known
I am not a developer
Hope you can help
You don't need to be a developer, that's what we're here for.
The avatar import is having issues for some users right now. We're preparing a release (due out later tonight or tomorrow) that will fix that as well as a few other issues. None of the fixes are for profile information import though.
It's good to know that the first name, last name, etc comes in. That tells us the link to LinkedIn is there and working. I wish our new demo site were finished (where you can access the admin area), so we could have you see all the settings we use. I'm not sure why the other fields wouldn't come in though if the 'basic' fields do.
Can you let me know what version of JLinked you're using, just to make sure it's the latest. Beyond that, if it's possible to get admin access to your site, that may help us see your config and determine where a problem is. Otherwise, you may just want to wait for the new version and see if that helps.. but again, I wouldn't pin hopes on that.
If you want to send admin credentials, you can Private Message them to me by clicking the arrow under my picture (<----) and hitting the mail icon.
Thanks for the credentials. I just registered on the site and see some of the info coming in. We're running the new version of JLinked through automated testing right now and it should be out tomorrow (if all goes well). I'd like to see how the tests go, in case they find any issues, and then get it installed on your site to see if it clears up any of the problems. It should definitely fix the avatar issue.
I hope you don't mind waiting 1-2 days, but that's the best option as it will make sure you're using the latest code so we can debug easier from there if there continue to be problems. If you're in a critical rush to figure things out though, please let us know.
Thanks Alex for your time.
Of course I don't mind waiting while you are fixing the problem but I do hope that it will work like the demo site. Be my guest using my website also for a test.
If I must do something please let me know
We just posted the new JLinked version. Can you please download and install to upgrade your current version. It should definitely fix the avatar issue. There's a bunch of other fixes as well, but again, I don't think they will fix the profile import issues.
I also wanted to point out an update for the Login / Register page. There's a new option for how to display that form either horizontally (the current way), vertically (with the login area on top of the registration area), or even a way to disable the login form altogether.
It should make things look a little better overall, and just wanted to point it out!
Keep us posted on your results!
Is there any chance that the import issues will be solved. Appently it does work on your demowebsite. I tried that first before buying. What is different now?
The idea of the product is OK.
The avatar issue should definitely be fixed. There were some minor changes to how we do some of the profile import, but honestly, we aren't sure what's causing the issue on your site. So, we'd love it if you'd install the new version and test. The fact that some information comes in, but not all, is extremely strange and not something we've heard of.
If profile import doesn't work with this new release, we'll definitely get into your site and do some debugging with the code to understand why your installation is behaving different than all other users. We do a lot of testing and have a lot of users. Somehow, your site is the only one behaving this way, which makes it very difficult to immediately diagnose.
As always, we do have a 30-day money back guarantee. If you're unsatisfied, feel free to request a refund and we'll happily process it.
Thanks for all the access to your site. We can definitely repeat the problem on your site and are trying to recreate it on one of our development sites. Basically, if we set the Current Position fields in JomSocial to be required and show during registration and then, in JLinked, have it show the fields during registration, the values will be properly pulled in.
That means, there may be a bug with JLinked when importing fields that aren't visible. We test a lot with that configuration, but it's possible there's some mix of settings that's causing the problem.
We'll let you know what we find, and hopefully should have a solution over the next few days. As a reminder, we have a 30-day money back guarantee, and you're not very far into your subscription. Should you ever choose to get a refund, we'd completely understand, just let us know! Hopefully, we'll get you fixed up very soon though.
We came this far now. Ans I have all the confidence you will solve the problem.
Jlinked has great potential for further use in networking websites like mine. So I won't give up and trust you all the way:-)
Best regards and a good weekend
Once again, sorry for the delay and troubles. We got to the bottom of the problem, and it's a pretty silly bug on our part. Basically, we have a check in our code where we're only importing a user's profile information into JomSocial fields that are marked as "Registered". We'll be releasing an updated profile plugin in a day or so, but if you'd like to make a quick code change, you can implement the fix now.
If so, please edit /plugins/jlinkedprofiles/jomsocial.php At line 109, you'll see:
$filter = array('published' => '1', 'registration' => '1'); //, 'required' => '1');
Simply remove that registration portion, so it looks like:
$filter = array('published' => '1'); //, 'required' => '1');
Sorry this bug worked it's way past our automated tests. We'll update them to be more resilient with different configuration settings of the JomSocial fields.
If you don't want to make the code change, just grab the new zip package in a day or so (when the JLinked Overview page notifies you that the JomSocial plugin is out of date).
Thanks again for your patience and notification of the issue!
I've changed it Alex. Thanks for that. And my compliments for your honesty.
Probably my last question for this subject
On the profile page of Jomsocial - in your demo - you can see the whole profile of LinkedIn.
Location Country Code
Public Profile URL
How do I get all the fields on my profile
First off, we just pushed out an update to JLinked. It includes the new JomSocial profile plugin as well as an update to the component for some minor issues found after the last release. Didn't think it would be ready that quick, or I would have just waited to tell you a little longer
As for showing the fields in the user's profile in JomSocial, that's simply done in the JomSocial Custom Profiles admin area. Mark the fields you want to display as "Published" and "Visible", and it should show up in the front-end area for users to see.
Hope that helps!
As far as I understand: First make de fields in JS and connect them with JLinked. And publish it. I did that. But the fields don 't show up in the profile. I'll run the update first and try again.
Sorry for the delay! After you create the fields in JomSocial and publish them, there are other options for where and how they are shown, such as "Registration", "Visible", etc. You'll want to make sure the "Visible" parameter is checked in the field.
That is what makes it show to users on the front-end. The idea is that you can actually get information from users that admins see, but not all users. It sounds like you have some 'hidden' in that way.
Hope that all helps, but if not, let us know!
