Alex,
We couldn't agree more that it would be great to have the 'auto user' functionality that JFBConnect has. However, LinkedIn does not allow us to grab the user's email address from their profile, so there's no way we'd know the address without the user putting it in. This is one of those cases where we'd love user feedback on a couple of our ideas, as well as throwing out any you may have.
For an upcoming JLinked release, we're planning a few of the following ideas:
1) Still using the 'New User Registration' form, auto fill the username field with an autogenerated username. Similar to JFBConnect's auto-usernames, but the user would be able to change it if they wanted, but at least they wouldn't have to come up with one.
2) Option to disable the 'email confirm' and 'password confirm' fields. This simply asks less questions of the user.
3) Option to disable the username field. Username would be auto-generated (as in #1). Combined with #2, the whole registration form could be: Email address and "Allow profile import" checkbox.
4) (Probably won't do) - A auto user creation option where we simply make up an email address (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Let's users get in quickly, but without an email address, I think this would be useless and more confusing than it's worth. Also, wouldn't be able to import profile on registration, as that has to be explicitly approved by the user (per LinkedIn's ToS). Throwing this out there just in case it somehow sounds great..
Let us know what you think, and glad everything else is looking good. So far, feedback has been really positive, and we haven't done any promotion (will be in early December).
Thanks, as always,
Alex
