Hello, first off I just wanted to say great work on the extensions. Your products fill a much needed space and I haven't been happier to hand over my money to someone in a long time when I saw the Linkedin integration and think it will increase the registrations on my site significantly.

I am however having a minor issue where new registrations are not getting their Avatar's pulled in from Linkedin.

How would I go about troubleshooting this?

My registration page is located at: postscapes.com/community/register

Trevor,
Thanks so much for the kind words. We're definitely excited about LinkedIn integration, and are very happy with the response so far (both in positive feedback and no big problems so far).

As for your issue, there's a couple possible reasons for why the avatar wouldn't be imported. First off, if you've been using JFBConnect a while, there are some differences. Due to LinkedIn's terms of service (TOS), profile information can only be imported with explicit consent from the user -each- time it's to be imported. So, for now, we only import the profile information / avatar on initial registration (which is also why the checkbox for "Allow importing profile" or whatever is there). We're investigating a few easy ways to allow the user to import this info after they've registered, but don't have a way to do that now.

With all that said, I just tried to register on your site, and see that the avatar didn't import.. though the rest of my profile did.. so guess that's not the problem :D

Can you let me know the following:
1) Obviously, check to make sure the "Import Avatar" setting is enabled in the Profiles area of JFBConnect
2) In JomSocial, are you using "Remote Storage" for avatars?
3) Does the avatar import work for JFBConnect?

Not really sure of other ideas. With JFBConnect, I know most of the answers, but we just haven't been asked enough questions with JLinked. If possible, we can gladly get into your system to debug further if necessary. If interested, simply private message a set of super admin credentials to us, and we'll dig right into the cause. You can PM me by clicking the arrow under my picture (<----) and hitting the mail icon.

Thanks again,
Alex

Trevor,
Whew! Found the issue, but can't say I know the exact cause. The problem occurs when the "FirstFriend" plugin is enabled. I really don't what that plugin does, or why it modifies the avatar. We had a similar issue with a different plugin once. The user there contacted the developer and they fixed the plugin saying the "problem was a really simple cache refresh issue."

Not sure what that means, but I'd have to recommend either disabling that plugin, or contacting the developer to see if when the load the JomSocial user, that they reload it 'fresh'. Since JFBConnect/JLinked update the user's information during registration, if they load it at one step.. but then use it in a later step without updating it.. if they save the information, the stuff 'we' update in the intermediate steps may be lost.

Hope that helps get you started, but should you need anything else, let us know!

Ugh, sorry to hear that took you awhile to fix and it wasn't even this extension doing the damage. I appreciate the time and your support and will leave a review on Joomla extension page.

Trevor,
No worries about the support. It's what we do, and now that we've heard of this issue twice, it's something we'll look out for more.. it just helps us provide a better experience to all our users, and with 2 social components now, it's good to know about any possible conflicts!

Thanks for the vote on the JED, and good luck with your site. Should you need anything else, just let us know!
