I have noticed that throughout the demos and documentation wonderful integrations between social networks between joomla and any third party components. One thing that is a little under-represented (IMO) is VirtueMart.

That leads me to my question. How exactly are interactions handled in VirtueMart? Does the user automatically push their purchase to FB? We also associate some private data with accounts that should not go to FaceBook. Do we have the control to specify?

I am excited at the possibilities with our store and this solution.

The VM integration we have right now is completely for authentication. A user can register and login using any of the social networks we support. When they come from a social network, their VM user profile will be automatically filled out, which improves their cart -> checkout time by not having them have to create a username, password, fill out their name, fill in their city, state, and country, etc. There are many different fields from each network that can be imported, and it's up to you how to import them.

Additional things that can be done, but not automatically, is adding the social widgets (Like, Comments, Share buttons, etc) to your VM pages. We have lots of easy tools to help add social features to any content on your site, not just VM.

We do have future plans for deeper Open Graph, posting, and other features, but I don't have a timeline on when those features would be implemented.

I hope that helps explain, but should you have any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Here are some hypotheticals I am wondering about ad perhaps you can help clear me up on what I am expecting:

Hypothetical 1:
So say I wanted to push some products to the FaceBook "Tab". Can I push them....
Hypothetical 2:
When a cutover "checks-out" I guess we cannot have a optional "Share Product Purchased on Facebook" option?

Hypothetical 3:
What about when a customer reviews a product? (assuming ratings are active and published?)

Don't get me wrong we are still going to use this, but I am just getting a feel for the work ahead of me. Thanks for your time in answering these questions. We chose Joomla because our store also happens to have a bunch of other content as well, not just products so we would still be well served by this system.

1) Our "Channels" feature lets you add any Facebook Pages or Groups, LinkedIn Company Pages and Twitter Streams that you want to push content to. Then, from the front end, you can easily add a comment, select the "Channels" and hit "Post". Your content will immediately show up in the social streams you selected.
Please note, this is not an automated process yet. When you add a new VM product, or any other content to your site, it won't be automatically pushed to the social networks. That ability will come at some point in the future, but will likely be limited to supporting only specific extensions. Whereas the current feature supports any URL on your front-end, regardless of what's generating that content.

2) Sure you could. You can create a Share button pretty easily on your checkout or purchase pages that can have a custom title, description and image. You'd need to do a little coding within VM to set that up (pull the product the user just purchased and prepopulate those fields), but JFBConnect has an easy Javascript call you can make to create the Share button anywhere you want.

3) It depends on how the reviews are performed. JFBConnect has Open Graph Action integration, which allows you to create actions (activity user makes on your page) and objects (URLs on your site). The actions a user takes can be posted to their timeline, like "John just reviewed xyz". Right now, we have an Open Graph plugin for JReviews for reviews. We also have OG Plugins for Joomla content, K2 and other extensions, but we don't have one for VM. If you're using a VM specific review system, we wouldn't have support for auto-posting that as an action right now.

I hope that helps answer more of your questions,
Alex
