Topic-icon Jomsocial : Password issue makes my users confused

Hi,

I was a happy JFBConnect user years ago and I've just started to look into it again. I hope we can work together to solve the following little problem I'm facing!

I suppose you have access to the Jomsocial Support forums? If so, please read this thread as I'm having the same issue :

www.jomsocial.com/forum/facebook-connect...ing-facebook-connect

I do understand the fact that my site ain't allowed to import passwords from Facebook. But, the problem is that once a user synchronize his account with Facebook, that user can never login "normally" again, until he resets his password. I understand the practice but it's still confusing for my users. I don't know what kind of password Jomsocial put's there when I connect to Facebook through the Jomsocial intergration and my users for sure don't know either ;)

Does JFBConnect have a way to get around this, maybe? Or what would the best approach be to not confuse my users?

Awaiting your reply.

Cheers!

Peter,
We have no problem with what you're looking to do. With JFBConnect, when a user 'connects' their Facebook account to an existing Joomla account, they can login with *either* account from that point forward. Additionally, with our upcoming v5.1 release, we'll be adding Google+ authentication with the same abilities.

Furthermore, we have a configuration option (which is enabled on this site) to automatically generate new users that login via Facebook or Google+ to automatically create them a password as well. If you check the "Welcome" email you received from us, you'll see there is a username *and* password for your account there. With that, you can use FB or those Joomla credentials to login.

If you want to test, you can try 'connecting' to Google+ by using the option in the My Account menu in the top right. If you do, you'll be able to then login to the site with Facebook, Google or your Joomla credentials.

Whew... I hope that all helps, but if you have any questions, just let me know. For a good overview of the features JFBConnect adds to JomSocial, see our features page below with a good demo video:

If you have any questions, just let us know, and we'll gladly help answer them.

Thanks,
Alex

Oh.. just to add to the conversation in that other post, we also have the ability to show and require the user to approve the Terms of Service before creating an account. It's an extra step in the process, of course, but it is possible if that's something you're looking for.

Thanks,
Alex

Will purchase the component tomorrow. It's late here now :).

Thanks for your quick and detailed reply. Looking forward to start using your services :)

Peter,
Glad we could help explain. Social Network integration is our only focus, so we try to make things as easy to configure yet as powerful as possible. Should you have any feedback or comments on anything you see, just let us know. We're always looking for new features or ways to sand out some rough edges... the next release has a lot of improvements in both of those areas :)

Thanks,
Alex
