Let me explain to you how I envision using this product and perhaps you can help me understand what can and cannot be done.

Currently when a user registers with a login module they see are directed to what I believe is the K2 login screen with registers them with various questions. Does this replace and or add to that when a user logs in via the facebook registration?

Also I have an app with my shopping cart Ecwid right now? should I make an entirely new app to use for this application?

Also, very important when a person registers now via easydiscuss it take them to register via k2... guess k2 is for everything right now... What if I don't want them to do that or what if I want on that k2 registration page to at least of the facebook login option? how does this work out? I am pretty confused on that part?

Lastly, for getting a ssl does my site have to always be on this or can it just be used for my facebook page?

thanks

Christian,
K2 alters the standard Joomla registration page and simply adds additional fields to that form that the user can fill out.

With JFBConnect, we have K2 integration that lets you do one of a few different things:
* You can automatically create the Joomla and K2 accounts for the user and automatically import data from Facebook to fill in their Joomla and K2 profile information.
* You can use a form based registration where the user can still select their username, password and fill out the K2 profile fields. You can also pre-fill some of that profile data for the user using their Facebook information.
* Similar to above, you can have a form based registration, but only show those fields that you aren't importing data into. So, for example, you import all the profile data into K2 automatically (without the user seeing that happen), but let the user select their own username and password.

Also I have an app with my shopping cart Ecwid right now? should I make an entirely new app to use for this application?

Likely, you'd use the same application. Generally, you only want one Facebook Application per site, but I don't know what your application for Ecwid is doing or how the integration works.. so I can't give you a specific answer on that right now.

Also, very important when a person registers now via easydiscuss it take them to register via k2... guess k2 is for everything right now... JFBConnect creates 100% standard Joomla users that can be used with any extension. Additionally, users can still register the 'standard' Joomla way. Regardless of how the user registers (Facebook or Joomla), they should work with EasyDiscuss. You'll be able to use your current Login redirections, but also add the Login with Facebook button to various parts of your site to give options to the user.

Lastly, for getting a ssl does my site have to always be on this or can it just be used for my facebook page?

SSL is only required for your Facebook Page to communicate with your site. Your entire site doesn't have to always use SSL connections for every page load or anything like that.

I hope that helps explain, but if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Ok for right now let me focus on the begging part of the k2 integration...

In my mind I have to work this out. I want to be able to have the user fill out some information regarding their account like email for example... to me I don't regularly use my facebook email and may prefer to use my school or other email... i would like the user to be able to designate their email they want to be in contact with. Also, the next concern i have for the flow of how this will work is how does a person know and or use what their user name is? Is it simply they always log in with their email account from here on out? I guess if they did it once then they can do it all of the time?

but from that point I have two questions... is there a username that is generated anyway that they will at some point when they want or need have access to? And, can they always access their account with that username and password?

So, it sounds like option 2 right? or perhaps a mix of option 1 and 2... what do you think?

The reason why this is so important because the user that registers I will be using their email and name for very important contact and communications so I want them to understand what they are doing when they signup for an account... not just hit a Facebook button and poof they have an account.

Which brings me to the last point for now... But, once they sign up with an account and have filled it out properly what doesn't seem apparent is that if they picked a separate username and password will they have to log in with that or can they do either the direct facebook login or username and password login or does it perhaps both???? It has to be both no?

So that's it really, I would like the person to be able to login and register with their Facebook info and surely I want info from their facebook already... I want them to clean up their profile buy entering a email for contact purposes and perhaps remove any information for them they don't want on their site profiles and be done with it and have full site access... From there I want to be able to have them login with their FB from then on out or a username and password if need be. Is this possible? if not what do you recommend on my needs/

thanks for your time.

Christian,
JFBConnect would have you covered for the flow you're looking for. As I mentioned above, one of the registration options is:

You can use a form based registration where the user can still select their username, password and fill out the K2 profile fields. You can also pre-fill some of that profile data for the user using their Facebook information.

In this case, the user would click the "Login with Facebook" button and then be sent to a registration form where they could set their username, password, email and K2 fields for their profile. You'll be able to hide those fields, if you want, so that password is automatically generated or they have to use their Facebook email address. You don't have to hide those fields though, so that the user can set them.

Once that's done, the user will be able to login to your site clicking the Login with Facebook button or by logging in using the Joomla credentials they created.

but from that point I have two questions... is there a username that is generated anyway that they will at some point when they want or need have access to? And, can they always access their account with that username and password?

If you want a super fast registration process with no forms, then the username will be generated automatically. That's what we use on this site and why your username is "chrmat1".

However you configure the registration process, the user will have a username and password that they can log in with. That username and password will either be automatically generated by JFBConnect or selected by the user. It's up to you what works best for your site.

JFBConnect will help you do all of this. Once registered, however, they will be able to login with Facebook or Joomla credentials. On the registration form, you can pre-fill the K2 fields with all their Facebook data where they will be able to edit it.

I hope that answers your questions, but again, if you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Ok this seems really good. So basically. the user selects login with facebook... they go to a form which will ask them to set up a user name and password if they want to login with a username and password and also set any other information I would like them to set via the k2 login form. From here they can login with their user and pass or go directly in with their facebook login?

also they can have the ability to update their profile at any time?

Does this sound about right?

Your description above could basically be a description page for one of the many features that JFBConnect performs. For updating their profile, that's not anything we interfere with. The users will behave just like normal Joomla users, so they can edit their K2 or Joomla user data at any time, just like normal. One thing you *can* do is automatically import their profile on each login. That will allow them to keep their information inline with their Facebook data on every login. That's just another option we have though :)

The only things I'd want to point out that I just thought about is that right now, our profile import for K2 works with 'standard' K2, not with their extended profiles plugin. That's something we're working on and planning to have out soon, if you're using that plugin with K2.

I hope all your questions are answered, but if not, or you have others, just let us know.

Finally, if you weren't aware, we have a 30-day money back guarantee on all of our extensions. If you aren't happy or can't get things going how you want, no worries.

Thanks,
Alex

so far so good. I have purchased the extension and with the facebook tab and canvas page I am really excited from what I see. love it. what are the dimensions of the tab page... i feel I have some work to do with my templates responsiveness.

also, I believe I am going to start another thread about this but I am probably going to want other tabs because I have "school" pages for mysite that are like front home pages for each school I service. I would like to have a tab for each of them.

Now, from what I read you have to set up another joomla site with an install of jfbconnect. that seems like a whole lotta work is this true?

lastly, I will post in another post because it is a specific topic. thanks.

Thanks for subscribing, and glad you're liking things so far! That's always a good start :)

The Page Tab width can be 810px or the legacy (really silly) width of 520px. I believe all are defaulted to 810px nowadays, but you can check if you go to the Facebook Developer Area , click into your app, and scroll down to the Page Tab section.

We do have a setting in our Page Tab configuration area where you can set a different template just for the Page Tab view. Responsive is easier as you don't have to deal with much, but if your template is hard-coded to a wide width, using that template setting lets you copy that template, hard-code the width to 810px and then clean up the issues (remove a sidebar, etc). Not necessarily simple, but prevents you from having to alter the 'live' template.

I just responded to your post about Multiple Page Tabs in Joomla .

I hope that helps, and should you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex
