Jomsocial autoposting question

Jomsocial autoposting question

I'm a bit confused about the extent of the autoposting feature.

What I'm specifically looking for is the ability for my jomsocial members to autopost to their own social media accounts via my site - fb, linked in, twitter etc.

Not to the site fb page / groups, but their own timelines on fb etc

Will v7 do this?

thanks

Re: Jomsocial autoposting question

Short answer, no. Longer answer, not really, but maybe.

JFBConnect will automatically post to the configured social network channels when new content is created/saved or changed to the published state. Currently, for JomSocial, this applies to new groups and to new events only. This is a new feature and we're definitely open to feedback for improving it going forward.

Our Channels feature is really meant for setting up links to social accounts you, the admin, own so that you can easily pull in or push content to those streams.

With that said, JFBConnect does support Open Graph Actions, which allow you to have activity on your site automatically post to your Facebook user's Activity Log. From the Activity Log, those actions can show up in the user's Timeline, Activity Log or various other aspects of Facebook. For JomSocial, we support the following Actions:
* Events - Creating & Joining
* Groups - Creating & Joining
* Photos - Uploading any new ones
For more details, see our Open Graph Actions documentation.

What you're looking for with auto posting to a user's own social timelines is something we'll likely not be supporting. Most social networks don't want you to post content automatically on behalf of the user without a lot of permissions and notices beforehand. The main way all networks recommend posting content is through their sharing buttons, which we most definitely support.

Open Graph Actions are the way Facebook recommends to auto-post on a user's behalf. No other social networks really have an API for auto-posting on a user's behalf.

I hope that helps explain a bit more, but if you need more details, please let us know.

Thanks,
Melissa
