i already have reg-members and want to import FB on Registration

i already have reg-members and want to import FB on Registration

I already have over 500 members on my site that im sure have Facebook accounts.
If i setup JFBC to "Import user info from Facebook during REGISTRATION ..."
and tell it what i want it to import,
what happens to the members who are ALREADY registered with the site?

Will their info be imported as well?
Is there a way to ask them to LOG OUT, then IN again where they are prompted to import their info?

Id like the old members to have this ability to import

Re: i already have reg-members and want to import FB on Registration

I'm unsure of what version of JFBConnect that you're running, but here are the options:

1. In SCLogin module, turn on the option for Logout View Settings > Show Connect Account Button(s). Then, when logged in, the social network buttons that have not been connected yet will be displayed. The user can press those buttons to link their Facebook account to the existing Joomla user they're logged in with.
2. You can add the JFBCLogin easy-tag anywhere on your site, with the option to show the connect buttons. E.g. {JFBCLogin show_reconnect=true}. These buttons will behave in the same manner as #2.
3. In JFBConnect v6.3, we've provided a new front-end view for users to connect and disconnect their accounts to the social networks easily. You can create a new menu item by selecting JFBConnect > Account Settings in the Menu Item Type.

In all of these cases, when the user logs out and then uses the Facebook login account to log in, then any profile import that you have configured on login will take place.

I hope this helps explain the options, but let us know if you need any further help.

Re: i already have reg-members and want to import FB on Registration

Thanks Mel
Now i have another question related to this. While im sure its not a problem for the MEMBER to the site,
what happens if ME as the site administrator end up using the Login module to connect via my Facebook account?

My facebook uses ONE username, avatar and so on
but if i use the system to "Login with Facebook"
that will change my avatar to the one i use on Facebook as well as give me a different USERNAME on my own joomla website, wont it?

Or am i thinking it hte wrong woy?

A) if i connect my Joomla site to my facebook (already as a joomla registered member) it will change my credentials and profile image
or
b) if i am already registered with my own website (as an admin in this case) it will simply USE my facebook credentials to log into Joomla but will NOT change any of my account setup info like avatar, joomla username, and so on

which is it?

If you already have an account on your site, you can use any of the options Melissa mentioned above to connect your Facebook account to that existing account. It *may* update your avatar, depending on your settings in the Profiles area of JFBConnect on whether data is imported only during registration or also on subsequent logins as well.

Either way, you should not have to have 2 separate Joomla accounts on your site: one with Facebook and one by itself. JFBConnect is built from the ground up to let you connect existing accounts to Facebook (or Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, WindowsLive, Yahoo or the other 10 total networks we support). Then, when you login with any of those social networks, you'll be logging in to the same Joomla account with each.

So, bottom line, it's like your option (b) above.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Alex
Thanks for that info. Ill look into those settings in JFBC and make sure i have things set properly so's not to disturb the accounts of existing Joomla members.

Thanks guys

No problem. I hope that helps get you going, but if you need anything else from us, just let us know.

Finally, please note that Facebook has been making big changes lately. I'm not sure what version of JFBConnect you're using, but we always recommend using the latest for the best compatibility with all supported social networks. For more information on the Facebook changes, see:

well Alex i have to say

this did not work as planned on option B. Instead it created a NEW account in my joomla site and logs me in with that.
My username on the Joomla site (as admin) is "DjLiqidTouch"
but my facebook name is "Eric Robinson"

This procress instead created an account on my site under the name of Eric Robinson

I am not sure at this moment weather or not that Eric Robinson account is an ADMIN level or not

Re: i already have reg-members and want to import FB on Registration

Then something wasn't done correctly...

* If you have the "Automatically Link Users by Email" setting enabled *and* the Facebook account (Eric Robinson) is using the same email as "DjLiqidTouch" on your site, they should have been linked automatically.
* If the emails are different, or that setting is disabled, you'll need to make sure that the "Enable Automatic Registration" setting is "No". Then, the user will be brought to the Login / Register page of JFBConnect. On that page, they can create a new account *or* login to an existing one.

I'd recommend deleting the new account you created and going through the process again. Please let us know exactly what steps you're taking and we'll tell you where something sounds like it has gone wrong.

JFBConnect only creates users in the Registered group. If we link to an existing account (which didn't happen in this case), then the user group of the existing user will not be changed. You can always look at the Joomla User Manager to confirm the groups for each user.

I hope that helps, but again, please let us know exactly what you did and we'll gladly help further.

Thanks,
Alex
