Alex

we created a simple action but it has strange behavior.

We made a simple jreview review action but with the test user we cannot see the result in the FB user test timeline. It appears down on the left as last action.

Where we made mistake?

The open graph log says published.

Thanks

Adriano,

The action appears to have been logged by Facebook correctly. As with any news feed post, Facebook determines its relevance to the viewer and how it should be displayed. There are many ways that an action can be displayed, including the timeline, friend ticker and friends' feeds. As long as the action is showing up in the latest activity, your action seems to be configured correctly. How it is viewed is not something we can control.

Thanks

Thanks Melissa

I'm happy to catch that at the end at least this action has been configured well.

I'm really surpriced to see that we cannot control in some ways where to show in FB the contents. I mean, i was sure that the default view was the FB timeline.

Cheers
Adriano

There's different levels of 'importance' in Facebook's mind. For things that happen automatically, like uploading an image, it's less important because Facebook doesn't know the context. For Actions which are triggered by the user clicking a button and adding a comment, that has much more weight because it's tells Facebook that the content is meant to be shared. Similarly, when a friend is tagged, that's a good indicator to Facebook that the action is meant to be shared.

Uploading is important. The "Read an article" has next to no weight. While it *can* show up in the timeline, it's very rare and more likely will show in the news 'ticker' of what your friends are doing only.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Hi ALex,

thanks for your clear view of FB behaviour but.....

I made only one FB action+story in FB called review of article

Then i made now only one JFBConnect action review (of listing of two objects restaurant and receipe).

Well every review of receipes goes in the timeline while every review of restaurant goes in the action list.

It is very stange considering that are both actions of article.....

Any further idea?

Cheers

There can be various reasons for where and how an action are displayed, as noted above. If the object type is something that Facebook could recognize algorithmically by it's name, if it's an object that another user has interacted with before (whether through an action or clicking the Like button) and multiple other things will affect where it goes.

Additionally, Facebook also needs to scan the contents of the pages of your site to grab the proper Open Graph tags. When a page is brand new, you can have an action against it, but the information won't fully be in Facebook's system for a while. In that case, it will get much lower prominence until Facebook has fully vetted it out with it's automated tools.

For both cases above, I'd assume that if you go to your Facebook home page and click the "View Activity Log" button in the bottom right of your cover photo, both action types will be shown there. Again though, what shows in the Timeline is dependent on a ton of different factors of which we have no control.

I hope that helps,
Alex
