Hi Guys

I am sorry to hit you with this one.

I installed JFBConnect and was very happy to see the Facebook Button on the home page login.

When I clicked on it though I was greated with a blank page. Similar to when one has a php error. No error showing just blank pages.. I am able to go to other pages with no Jomsocial on them like the privacy policy page but the rest go blank.

This tells me that it is not Joomla that breaks but rather Jomsocial.

The only thing that helps is to disable the System - JFBCSystem plugin. When I re-enable it I get greeted with a blank page.

I then updated everything: Joomla 3.2, JFBConnect library and component as well as SC login etc..

The problem remains.

I am now at my wits end.

Please help.

Regards

J

Okay so the updates seemed to break everything and I uploaded the latest backup that I had before the updates.

At the moment the site is working... JFBConnect is installed and seemingly works until one clicks on the Facebook button in which case the site breaks down.

The moment I disable JFBCSystem Plugin the site works fine.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Regards

J

First, sorry for the delayed response. We were returning from the Joomla World Conference yesterday, and support took a hit during our travels. Now, for your problem...

From what it sounds like, my guess as to your configuration is:
* You have the Social Profiles - JomSocial plugin enable
* You have the "Registration Component" set to "JomSocial" in the JFBConnect -> Configuration area
The white page *is* likely a PHP Error. You should be able to go to the Joomla Global Configuration area and set Error Reporting to "Maximum" to see what that error is, which would greatly help us.

The problem is likely from our new mode where a user can login with a social network but use the JomSocial registration flow. That feature was just added in v5.2. We tested extensively, but it's possible we missed something.

For now, you can likely:
* Disable the Social Profiles - JomSocial plugin (instead of the whole JFBCSystem plugin) to fix the error. That will allow more features to continue to work.
* Try changing the Registration component to JFBConnect and testing that way instead.

Once we get the error, that will help us narrow things down. If you can't see it still, let us know what version of JomSocial you're using, and we can test further from there.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex

This is the error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 25165824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home/sites/manyora.co.za/public_html/libraries/cms/html/select.php on line 636

All the settings you suggested were already the way they should be.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 25165824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in

Yeessh. That error is simply stating that your site is using too much memory to generate the page. However, 250MB to generate a page is a *huge* amount, so something seems like it's going wrong on your site. On this site, for instance, we have our memory limit set to 60MB, and that's more than enough.

So, there could be problems in either area below:
* JFBConnect could be allocating too much memory and making your site go a little crazy. This is always possible, but unlikely. We do a lot of profiling and haven't heard issues like you mention from other users. Most sites/hosts have much lower memory limits as well.
* Your site was already using a ton of memory, and JFBConnect is just 'tipping' the scales over the limit.

The first is something we can obviously help to fix. The 2nd is something that we'd simply recommend disabling system plugins, removing components, and paring back anything 'extra' you have installed that isn't required.

As for:

All the settings you suggested were already the way they should be.

I really didn't give recommendations on settings above. There's lots of ways to configure things. Can you tell me if disabling the Social Profiles - JomSocial plugin fixes the issue? That will definitely help narrow things down.

Another thing to do is enable the System - Debug plugin (if not already) and then set the "Debug System" to Yes in the Joomla Global Configuration area. Then, in the bottom of each page, there should be a report of memory usage. For the pages that work, see if the number is anywhere near 250MB. If so, the 2nd point above about your site using a lot of memory applies. If it's really low on most/all pages, then it could be something strange when using JFBConnect in JomSocial.

I hope that helps get you started,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thank you very much for the reply.

The crazy thing is that I have only installed the following:

1. Artisteer template (Which is only the header)
2. Jomsocial Component
3. Skype plugin
4, JFBConnect
5. Akeeba Backup (was not installed the previous time the site did the same thing)

After it broke the first the first time. I uninstalled everything and re- installed them with care.

The site works great except when I activate JFBConnect.

Lemme activate Debug... I will report back just now.

I am now almost certain that the JFBConnect component is doing something funny.. Sorry

I changed the memory in the php.ini file to 60M

I still keep getting the following error the moment I activate JFBConnect - System plugin: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 25165824 bytes (This is 25M not 250M) exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/sites/manyora.co.za/public_html/components/com_community/models/videos.php on line 74

In debug it show memory usage as 12-14MB

Something else seems to be wrong.

Joe,
Thanks for pointing out my error. 25MB is much more reasonable for page memory. JFBConnect still shouldn't be choking on that much, but again, it could just be "the straw that broke the camel's back".

Can you help my by doing the following:
* Let me know exactly when this happens? Above, you said it only happened after you tried to register and, then, only inside JomSocial. Is that still correct? Is there other times you see this error, or other ways to recreate it?
* Is it possible to give me super admin credentials to the site to investigate further? With the above question on how to recreate things, we'll be able to (hopefully) narrow things down.

To send me your credentials privately, please hit the mail icon under my name. That will let you send a Private Message.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thank you very much for the help.

It seems it was an ISP fault rather that a JFBConnect fault.

We have changed all the php memories everywhere and now it seems to work fine.

Thank you so much for you assistance and patience.

It is greatly appreciated :)
