Hi Alex - further to my earlier post I can confirm that the rebuild (which has nearly killed me) seems to have fixed most of the issues with the site, www.countydownspectator.com, except for this one...

On clicking the logout button on the SC Login module - which has been set to redirect to main menu/home - it does log out but raises a '404 - Component not found' error, which comes complete with a working link to the Home page ironically! Actually, even if the logout redirect is set to 'same page' it results in the same error.

As a matter of interest, I have noticed that Jomsocial also has a 'redirect on logout' setting (which only gives options to stay within its own pages strangely) that may be leading to a conflict and I have emailed those guys to ask the question and to request that they provide an alternate 'none' option in this menu.

I have also read that there may be a problem with the way j3.1 site upgrades handle menu IDs, so maybe you could consider this in your investigation?

Anyway, I think that everything is now working properly apart from this issue and would be really grateful if you could give me some sort of workaround or fix asap.

cheers, Russ

**UPDATE**

Further to the original post, I have asked my daughter to go through the registration process and she has uncovered a new example of this redirection issue. Because I was fairly sure that a new, clean 1-click registration from the Facebook on the SCLogin module would work anyway, I asked her to test a different specific routine:
1. Click the Register button on the SCLogin module (top right position on the site)
2. This opens the Jomsocial registration form, which I have set to the minimum profile requirements. She completed the form, re-captcha etc and clicked 'Next'
3. This then seems to go into a re-direction loop with the error message:
"The webpage at www.countydownspectator.com/index.php/co...=user.login&Itemid=1 has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Learn more about this problem.
Error code: ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
"
4. Reloading the site cleared the error and showed her as not logged in.
5. She then clicked on 'Login' on the top SCLogin module, completed the username & password fields in the modal popup and clicked 'Log in'. This did log her in to the site and added the 'connect your account to Facebook' button in the top module. (Hooray!)
6. She clicked on this to connect Facebook, which went through the authorisation process and the modal login - but didn't add the profile info, avatar etc to her Jomsocial profile! (???)
7. She clicked 'log out' in the top module and, again, the process seems to have been hijacked by the setting in Jomsocial which redirected her to the JS Home page - which of course doesn't work because by this time you're logged out - instead of the intended log out redirection of the main Home page, as per the settings in the SCLogin module. A further site reload required...
8. Next, she clicked on the 'log in' button on the top module and this time selected the big login with Facebook option. The routine went as expected and her JS profile did now include info, avatar etc from FB.
9. Finally then she clicked on the 'log out' button in the top SCLogin module and was taken to the same 404 component error as per the original post in this thread.... (sigh)

That's as forensic a description of the process as I can explain it mate but you maybe want to go through something similar yourself. On one hand I really need to get this site working very soon now so any sort of fix or work around would be very welcome. However, it seems that there is some sort of conflict between the latest versions of JFBC & JS, specifically with regard to what happens on login & logout, and maybe something else with the way j3.1.5 site that has been upgraded from j3.1.0 handles menu item IDs, and I guess you will want to get a proper understanding of that.

If you want admin access Alex just register on the site (to test the process if nothing else...) and I'll make you a super admin/

One final comment - it strikes me that JS is a great membership & activities component and JFBC is an essential add-on to connect Facebook users, harvest the profiles etc, but what might be even better if JFBC, if installed, just took over the whole of the registration process, forms, account management etc from JS, leaving it to just provide the networking functions. What do you reckon, world domination eh? :)

Cheers man, hope to hear from you asap.

Russ,
I'm having trouble using the automatic registration flow on your site, in general. When I click the Login with Facebook button, I'm brought to the JomSocial registration page and there's the following messages at the top:

× Error
The words you typed did not match the ones displayed. Please try again.
× Message
Redirected to community registration.

My assumption is that you have Captcha configured and somehow that's interfering with the automatic registration process. We haven't seen that interfering before, so I'm not sure what's happening. Can you tell me what your settings are in the Global Configuration area and the User -> Parameters area for Captcha? We'll definitely investigate why that would be preventing registration once we know how those 2 things are setup.

I then tried to register using JomSocial, like your daughter did. I ran into the same redirect loop. Unfortunately, I'm not able to proceed like she was. If I reload the page, I see the JomSocial registration page again. I can't login using the SCLogin module either.

So, with those 2 problems combined, I simply can't register and login to your site to test the logout problem.

Can you check if an account with a username of "sourcecoast" was ever created? If not, then that means the registration process won't work at all for me.

In this case, here's what I would check/test:
* Set Error Reporting to 'Maximum' and Debug System to "Yes" in the Joomla Global Configuration area. Try to recreate the loop (both of them). That may show a more descriptive error message that would help diagnose things.
* Disable the Captcha altogether to see if that improves the Facebook Automatic or JomSocial registration process.
* Disable SEF URLs as those can make it harder to diagnose issues.
* Check your User and Authentication plugins. Generally, leave only Joomla, JFBConnect and JomSocial plugins enabled. There may be others you have, but make sure they are required (or even test with them disabled) to see if that helps.

I really hope something above helps get you going. Just so you know, JFBConnect does not function *at all* during the JomSocial registration process. The loop that's occurring there is almost surely *not* coming from JFBConnect. With 2 different redirect loop errors, it's possible there's one cause.. we just need to narrow down what it could be now.

Good luck,
Alex

Plugins! Bloody plugins! Hundreds of the wee monkeys and every one of them wanting to handle users & Re-captcha - all of them differently and all at the same time!

Anyway, taking your advice I turned everything off (think; Joomla, Jomsocial, K2, Easyblog, Easydiscuss, Komento etc etc) and then back on one by one (and then often back off again) until the login/logout process seems to be behaving and the only redirects that are still active are those per the settings in the SCLogin module and are actually pointing to the right pages etc. It was a bit like that scene in Apollo 13, really! :P

By all means have a look and a play with the registration if you want, and ping me for superuser access if there's anything you want to check, but I think it's cool for now. However I reserve the right to come back and bug you some more some other time Alex mate but until then - and God only knows what nonsense I'll think up next - I think I can leave you alone for a bit. :=D

Many thanks again for the cracking service. In years to come they'll write about this site, I tell ya...!

It works! I only tried the automatic login through Facebook (since that's what I care most about), but it works! The logout also worked! Weeeee-hoooo!

It looks like things are good to me. If there was a user plugin that you disabled that you feel you need, or a conflict you think we should know about, please let us know. We'd rather look into it more instead of waiting for the next frustrated user trying to save their oxygen supply and not freeze to deat... oh wait, got off course for some reason. Anywho, you know what I mean :)

Best of luck to you, and keep us posted on any other issues, feedback, or suggestions you may have.

Thanks,
Alex
