hi there,

today i purchased JBFConnect for the sole reason that i wanted to receive email notifications when someone posts a comment on my site via the Facebook comments. but i only receive the email notification if the person clicks "do not post to Facebook". needless to say, that pretty much defeats the whole purpose as im still left none the wiser that someone has posted a comment on my website! lol

i have spent the day going through every setting i can find but cannot see any way of solving my issue :(

if you have any advise then i would be very grateful :)

cheers

scott

Whatever you're using for Comments is re-including the Facebook Javascript library, which is re-initializing things and overwriting our settings to send the email. At least that's my best guess from what I see on your page. Re-including that library can definitely cause issues.

If it's EasyBlog, there's a setting in there to Include Facebook Javascript which you should disable since JFBConnect is already including that library. If it's another comment extension, please see if it has an option to disable that inclusion or replace it with the JFBCComments module.

Let us know how that goes, but if you have issues, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

hi Alex,

thank you for your reply :)

i am using EasyBlog and have just been through every setting i can find and the only one that sounds similar to what you mentioned is under the "Social Integrations" section, "Facebook Likes" tab and the setting is titled "Load Facebook scripts". this has the following description:-

"If disabled, the script all.js are not loaded on the site. Only switch this off when you have conflicts with 3rd party modules or components"

as this is concerning Facebook "Likes" rather than Facebook comments im not sure if it is what you are referring to? however, as a test i did disable it and then posted a reply on my blog using the Facebook comments and was pleased to see that i received an email notification straight away! :D

however, when i tried again it went back to normal and i did not receive any email notification :(

i then went back to the setting and enabled it, saved, disabled it and then saved again.....after doing that it once again worked at the 1st attempt but any further attempts did not work.......so it seems that something is only allowing it to work once for some reason :(

so any further advise please would be greatly appreciated :)

cheers

scott

Scott,
Well look at that, I learn something every day. It looks like that setting I mentioned doesn't affect the Facebook Comments integration in EasyBlog... the Facebook Javascript library is always included.

I still think that's the cause, so if you wouldn't mind making one minor change to EasyBlog, it will prove me right or wrong. If up for it, please edit the /components/com_easyblog/themes/default/comment.facebook.php file. In there, around line 18, you'll see:
<script src="https://connect.facebook.net/<?php echo $language[0];?>_<?php echo JString::strtoupper( $language[1] );?>/all.js#xfbml=1"></script>
Delete that line.

Test again. The comment box should still show (since JFBConnect is including the same library) and hopefully the emails will work as well. If not though, let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

hi mate,

thank you for your reply :)

i done as instructed but unfortunately it did not solve the issue :(

not sure if it helps, but when posting a Facebook comment the vast majority of the time after clicking the reply button i get a series of little squares appear (loading symbols?) that suggest it is in the process of leaving the comment, but after a few seconds they go away though the comment does not appear......to make it appear i have to refresh the page

going back to your initial reply where you mentioned the Facebook Javasript i have since found another setting in EasyBlog that may apply to it? this setting is found in "Settings" - "Workflow" - "maintenance" and gives me the option to disable "Versioning".....it gives me this as its description:-

"By enabling versioning on the scripts that are loaded on the site, every time you upgrade EasyBlog, the browser would automatically fetch a new copy of the javascript instead of requiring you to manually clear the browser's cache"

is that relevant to what you initially suggested or is it something completely different?

cheers

Sorry for the delayed response. Before anything else, so you know, we have a 30-day money back guarantee. You can take advantage of that anytime by using the Refund Request link (also at the bottom of every page).

As to the issue.. the "Versioning" setting in EasyBlog isn't related. That's a setting to prevent some possible caching issues when you upgrade.

Now, for the actual problem. Can you let me know a specific page we can test on? I just went through your site and it looks like the FB Comments boxes are missing (at least from some articles I checked). We'll gladly keep looking into it further as we can test what's actually going on in the Javascript once it's re-enabled again.

Finally, some things to check on your end, if you can:
* Make sure the email notifications are enabled in JFBConnect for comments
* Make sure the email addresses to send to are comma-separated (not on new-lines) and there aren't any spaces between them. Alternatively, just try with one email address (for now).
* Try changing your template to the default Joomla template and test if the comments work that way.

Sorry to throw a lot at you, but hopefully something above will work better or at least help us narrow down possibilities as to what's wrong.

Thanks,
Alex

Scott,
I'm sorry it didn't work right out of the box. For most users, all of our features work without any problems. However, different templates, 3rd party extensions and hosting configurations can always cause little hiccups that can be tedious to work through. I'm sure we could have found a solution to why the emails weren't coming, but I understand why you'd rather not deal with it.

Your refund will be processed soon, and thanks for trying JFBConnect.
