Topic-icon Site user automatically being logged in on my machines

Hi,
A strange thing has been happening on my desktop and iPad. A site user is automatically being logged in. I have been unable to stop this via clearing my browsing history. Here's a screencast of what's been happening:
d.pr/v/0AmkWK

Can you tell me why this is happening?

I checked someone else's iPad and it seems fine. I also notice that other site changes are not reflected on my machines, but I see them on the other people's machines.

Thanks
Peter

hey guys. i cleared my DNS settings and the problem has resolved itself. Can you say though why this particular user kept being logged in?

Do you have the JFBConnect > Configuration > Facebook > 'Auto Login Facebook Users' setting enabled? If so, do you still see the behavior when it's disabled?

I have no idea. It could be a caching issue or one of many other mis-configuration or coding reasons. It's impossible to even make a guess without understanding how the site is built and any modifications (custom or through extensions) that are on the site.

If you feel JFBConnect is somehow responsible for this behavior, we'd obviously investigate more, but would need to understand the details as to why you think that. This is not something we've heard of from any other users though, so I don't think it's JFBConnect related.

Thanks,
Alex

Hey there. Apologies for not responding sooner. I was asked to clear history and website data on my iphone and that cleared up the problem. I should have responded sooner.

FYI. Your website was down just now for a while. See: d.pr/v/XbK0XL

As luck (bad) would have it, the problem has returned and clearing history and data has not fixed it.

Anyway here's my response to it being JFBC or not. If you're willing to have a look let me know.
See: d.pr/v/0vWUst

Mel asked me to set "Auto-login FB users" to no. Which I did and the problem persists. See: d.pr/v/vOx9Us

I don't know if this helps you narrow things down?

Would appreciate any help.

Peter

Hi. This has something to do with caching. I've turned off caching in cpanel and the problem has gone away. I would prefer to have caching enabled. Can you advise what might be causing this?

Also. Is there any possibility that a user would experience the problem? if caching was re-enabled of course, where a user would see another user (not them) automatically logged in to their browser. Is that only possible with me because I'm a super user?

Thanks.

If it's a server-side caching issue, then yes, a user could experience it. If the server/website/etc is storing a copy of a page as if a specific user is logged in, that may show up to other users as well.

I would check the System - Page Cache and disable it, if enabled. That will store the HTML of pages for your site and serve them up directly. If a page gets stored by Joomla when user 'a' is logged, that raw HTML will be handed to user 'b' if they visit the same page. The Page Cache plugin should only be used on sites without user authentication.

Other caching in the control panel area for System Cache can remain enabled. That acts differently.

As for our site, yeah, we had a technical snafu. Still investigating, but got it up now. Thanks for your patience :)

Hi,
The system cache on my site was disabled. See: d.pr/i/72htoL
page cache plugin was also disabled. See: d.pr/i/oMMq7n

So now it seems there is no caching at all on my site. Neither from the server itself, nor from my Joomla system configuration. This seems safe to prevent this problem, but not optimal for site performance.

Do you recommend the site keep all caching off permanently?
What can I do to find out what was causing this problem and fix it?

Thanks for your help.

As mentioned above:

Other caching in the control panel area for System Cache can remain enabled. That acts differently.

The way I'd narrow it down in general though is to re-enable one caching feature at a time, slowly. Enable one, wait a few days to make sure there are no issues. Then, enable the next. Once you see the problem crop up again, it should be readily apparent which caching option is the problem.

I hope that helps,
Alex
