We have JFBconnect 7.2.4 running on php 7.0 and it seems to run very slow. Could this be that we need to update ? The latest version is 8.0.3. Could this be the reason for the very slow response times? See here 52.39.144.129 for the development site on AWS.

Can you tell me what aspect is running slow? Is it the registration process? If so, is it with all social networks, or one in particular? Any other details you can provide on what is slow and what portion specifically is slow (like loading the social network login area or the step after you enter your social network credentials and the login to Joomla occurs) will greatly help us investigate further.

As for Joomla 7.2.4, that is an older release. The 8.0 release has numerous changes for multiple networks to improve compatibility. Many of those updates were aimed at Facebook after their privacy issues earlier this year caused a lot of changes to their API, but there were additional changes to LinkedIn, Twitter, Google and a few others as well to keep them up to date with each social networks changes. None of the updates should have a major speed impact, but should fix some compatibility issues you may encounter if you use the 7.x releases.

I hope that helps explain, but please let us know any details you can share.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, we are using Jomsocial and the Profile and Q and A Section links are particularly slow - up to 10+ seconds to render ! The site is running on AWS server using php 7.0. We have been trying to figure out with the developers what the issue could be. They have done some modification to the Jomsocial and JS_impacto template. 52.39.144.129 Please create an account and see for yourself. Any help really appreciated.

Is there a reason you think JFBConnect is related to the slowness? JFBConnect usually loads very quickly and on most pages actually has no impact on the load time. The only time JFBConnect really should be the cause of any slowness is during the authentication and profile import process. That's when JFBConnect is most active and when things can start to get sluggish if the connections to the social networks is slow, which can happen for a variety of reasons.

If other extensions are going slow, I wouldn't expect JFBConnect to be the cause at all and I'd recommend contacting those developers. One easy way to test though is to disable the JFBConnect system, user and authentication plugins. With those disabled, JFBConnect will be pretty much off. If the site is still sluggish, that means it's definitely not related to JFBConnect.

I hope that helps,
Alex
