Hi there.

Will I'm sure this should be simple, but for the life of me I just can't seem to figure it out.

The og:image tag is simply not being created.

Any thoughts on what steps I can try to get this to work?

An example article is www.theinformer.co.nz/feature/do-the-mahi-get-the-treats

Anyones help on this will be highly appreciated!

Cheers

I'm assuming that's a standard Joomla article. If that's the case, all you should need to do is enable the Open Graph - Content plugin in the plugin manager.

If it's not a Joomla article, let us know what it is. We may have a plugin for whatever extension it is. If not, you may need to add the Open Graph image tag manually by inserting the following 'tag' in the article contents:
{SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg}

I hope that helps, but if you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes Its a standard Joomla Article. I do use SP Page Builder for other parts of the site, but not on the articles.

I have enabled the Open Graph - Content plugin but nothing has changed.

The website is for our local newspaper and it simply won't be possible for them to include that code every time one of the editors posts to the website. Its been tricky just getting them to understand posting the articles with a read more.

I really need the plugin to handle this.

Any suggestion what I could try next?

Thanks

I'm just wondering, would setting up a custom object for the articles make any difference, and then select the Article Full Image instead of the First Article image. I had a go, but again nothing appears to change so I'm not sure I did it correctly

I just checked the page you linked to in the original post and the og:image is being inserted into the HTML now. If you just enabled the Open Graph - Content plugin, that would be what is adding it. If you're using the {SCOpenGraph ..} tag that I recommend above, even for testing, then that's not helpful. From what I see though, it's working.

As for the Open Graph object, you can create one, but generally you don't need to. That allows you to override the default settings the Open Graph - Content plugin would apply as well as letting you setup autoposting from a category to any of the social networks we support. However, for setting the og:image tag properly, setting up an Open Graph object is not required.

I hope that helps explain, but if you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex.

Hope you had a good weekend.

Unfortunately what I had to do was disable the Open Graph Content plugin and install another open graph plugin (phoca) .. which has included the og:image tag.

Of course I would prefer to use just 1 plugin, name yours. If you are able to tell me when you want to schedule time to test, then I can disable the new plugin and re-enable the Open Graph Content plugin. I only used the SCOpenGraph tag in one article to test, and as mentioned before, it is unlikely I can get the website editors to keep including them in the articles they write.

Thanks for the help so far

Milo,
If you had to enable Phoca, I'm assuming you're using an extension by Phoca? Any details you can provide about what you're using, in addition to standard Joomla articles, really makes a big difference for us to help you. My assumption was that you were using the image manager in Joomla itself.

If you are using a separate image manager, it depends on how it adds images to the article as to whether our Open Graph plugin could automatically add the image. We expect either the 'Primary Image' to be set in Joomla or the image to be inserted as an <img ../> tag in the article. If Phoca is adding it's image 'outside' of the article contents, our plugin wouldn't be able to detect that.

One thing I can recommend is switching the order of any Content or System plugins related to JFBConnect and Phoca. In both the system and content groups, re-order the plugins so JFBConnect is before or after any Phoca plugins and test again. Try different orders to see if something works. Again though, it depends on how your image manager actually adds images to the page and no ordering may help.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex
