Topic-icon How Do I Disable SSL Requirement for DEV Site

Hi Alex, I regularly replicate the live site to the dev site so I can turn off all caching and work on elements of the site without the nuisance of having to clear the cache all the time.

I have a dev site, but there is no SSL certificate in place so I get an error when using the sclogin module to test permissions for other components.

I went into Configuration and set Force Scheme to http:// and applied that setting, but the login attempts failed because I was redirected to webdev.911truthoutreach.org instead of http://webdev.911truthoutreach,org which cause my host to throw an un-numbered error.

I went into the sclogin module configuration and saw nothing there that was forcing https:// so I went to the Facebook Configuration tab and tried to set all the lines to http://webdev.… but on save everything was set back to https://www.…

Please clue me in again as to how to resolve this issue. I don't use the webdev site for anything other than development and testing for the live site.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on how you're trying to login. I'm assuming you're having this issue with the standard Joomla login credentials when using the SCLogin module. If so, please check the "Encrypt Login Form" setting in the SCLogin module and disable it. That's likely what's trying to switch back SSL/https.

In general, that "Encrypt Login Form" setting can be disabled (even on Live) if you have the Force Scheme setting already enabled. The Encrypt Login Form setting will redirect to https if the user is on the http version of the site.. but if you're already forcing that, it's not necessary. That may help you when copying live to dev so you don't have to change that SCLogin setting on dev.

If that doesn't work or you're trying to authenticate a different way, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, now I remember that you tell me. That is it.

Thanks, you rock Alex.

Now if I can just get a grass roots movement going to enforce in government the kind of integrity that I encounter at SourceCoast.

Well honest presidents historically don't seem to have a particularly long life expectancy.

As always, it is a pleasure working with SourceCoast. Maybe you could have some influence on Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft and the others to entertain the idea of having just a scosh of integrity. Actually wish we could build our own social platform just to put those guys out of business, that would be the real American way. Just need a million Zeon powered servers to get started. I have an old copy of Microsoft Server 2008 Data Center, and full license to use it. I actually got it for free when involved with a technology sharing policy at the university I was attending; don't know how many instances of Server 2008 the license is good for, but I know it is good for many.

I wish you luck on that endeavor. My ideals of taking over the behemoths are long gone. I like working with them now as carving out a good niche has worked well for us. Of course, even if we become a behemoth, somehow someway, I'd like to think we'll still offer great support!

All the best,
Alex

Well as long as you don't build back-ends into your software for the purposes of marketing your clients information to third parties and governments. I am reminded that even if I don't have a Gmail account but respond to someone who does have a Gmail account that my interactions are tracked, stored and analyzed and marketed.

This is the reason I am going to be installing CiviCRM on Drupal. so that within our group our socializations remain contained within the server that CiviCRM is installed on or the CDN that it is distributed on and that we know who has access to the data.
