Login with LinkedIn - JFBConnect for Jomsocial

Login with LinkedIn - JFBConnect for Jomsocial

Hello,

We recently migrated from JLinked to JFBConnect 6.0 and have noticed in our test environment that the new Login with LinkedIn button is not working. I have replaced {JLinkedLogin} with {JFBCLogin} - what else do I need to do to make this work?

Note that this is for single-sign-on capability for our online community - the URL in question is www.fairwarning.com/webdev/community.

Thank you.

Re: Login with LinkedIn - JFBConnect for Jomsocial

I just went to the page you linked to, clicked the blue LinkedIn button and was brought to the Returning User / New User registration page from JFBConnect. It had my name and a note about logging in with LinkedIn, which is what I would expect.

Can you tell me what isn't working? Are you seeing any errors, white pages, or something else that may help us understand the problem? Also, is this with new users to your site, or with returning users who may have authenticated using JLinked?

One final thing to try is setting the "Enable Debug Mode" option to "Yes" in JFBConnect. That may show additional information during the login process. If anything else shows up there, let us know what it is so we can investigate further.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: Login with LinkedIn - JFBConnect for Jomsocial

Hi Alex,

Sure, I will be more specific.

I am a registered user in the community and have already been authenticated with LinkedIn. When I click on the "Login with LinkedIn" button, instead of directing me to the main page in the community, it just loops me back to the main login screen.

This was working previously when I had the {JLinkedLogin} as the button code. Yes, this is an issue that is new to those who had previously been authenticated with JLinked.

I did check "Enable Debugging" but nothing showed up.

Any further insight you can provide would be great.

Thank you!

Re: Login with LinkedIn - JFBConnect for Jomsocial

I'm not sure what's happening then if no error messages are showing up in the front-end when you've turned on the "Enable Debug Mode" setting in JFBConnect. There was one other user that had an issue with the migration where users that had authenticated previously had problems after moving to JFBConnect.

However, in that case, it showed a clear error when the attempt was made that helped narrow down the problem. The issue, in that case, was something to do with their LinkedIn application setting. We think it was that the app was created before November, 2012. There was a migration for LinkedIn Apps that occurred in June of last year, and if you didn't perform the migration manually (just checking a box in the LinkedIn developer area), the migration was done automatically. We think there was an issue if it was the automatic upgrade.

Ultimately, that user created a new LinkedIn Application and used the new ID on their site. That's not generally recommended as it a) makes users re-authenticated/approve your app and b) LinkedIn uses different IDs for users on each App ID, which means old connections in your User Map area won't be accurate until they re-authenticate and JFBConnect updates to the new ID returned by LinkedIn.

You can try to create a new App and see if authenticating again properly logs you in and updates your User Mapping to the new account properly (it should). That will help narrow down the cause and a new app may be an option for you, but I wanted you to know the above first.

I hope that helps. If the above doesn't sound like you, let me know. We can try to look at your JFBConnect settings to make sure things seem right as well if you'd like.

Thanks,
Alex
