JFBConnect V 6.1.2
Expires: Dec 11, 2014 (Expired)
Joomla 2.5

Hi, I don't remember if I can ask something when the extension has expired. In any case a try. I wish the image to share in facebook in every page of my site is always the logo of the site. I wrote image=http://www.taichionline.it/templates/taichi/logo.png in the option taxarea in open graph configuration and I enabled the 2 open graph plugins, but when I share a page in the facebook windows another image in the page is shown. Could you please help me to show in every page the same image. I set everything in a way that always the home page link will be share, it works but not for the logo I wish to be shown.

Thank you
Best regards
Francesco

Going to your page www.taichionline.it/ I see that there are two og:image tags set on the page:
www.taichionline.it/images/grafica/banne...t-tai-chi-online.png
www.taichionline.it/templates/taichi/logo.png

In both cases, these images are smaller than suggested. Facebook recommends 1200x630 pixels. Since they are both not the "correct" size, Facebook will decide on a best image to use by scanning your pages for a more appropriately sized image.

My suggestion is to make the default that you're trying to set in JFBConnect > Open Graph > Configuration > Default setting to an image that is a larger size. Then re-scrape your page on the FB open graph debugger at developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ (Hit Fetch new scrape button). You can also use our site socialdebug.com to see what the Like Preview would look like. If you're still having troubles after trying this, please let me know.

Thank you very very much, your support is fantastic!

So it was because of the size, as you said, now the image is ok. I'm still wondering why there are 2 tag for the images in every page of the site, for example this page
www.taichionline.it/cd-musica-tai-chi.html
has the tag I set in Open Graph (logo) options and another one. In any case Facebook takes the right one:

Meta Tag <meta property="og:image" content="www.taichionline.it/images/grafica/banne...arsi-orizzontale.jpg" />
Meta Tag <meta property="og:image" content="www.taichionline.it/images/grafica/logo/tai-chi-logo-big.png" />

I set this in open graph options

title=Tai Chi online
description=Shop online, corsi multimediali di Tai Chi scaricabili, dvd, musica per tai chi, libri, news, corsi e scuole in Italia, lezioni e quiz online.
image=http://www.taichionline.it/images/grafica/logo/tai-chi-logo-big.png

By the way, if I share this page now I can see the right image (logo) but title and description are not the ones I set in open graph options. I also checked it here
developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/
using: Fetch new scrape information

Thanks again for your support!

Could you turn on the 'Enable Social Toolbar' option in JFBConnect general configuration area? Then on your front-end, log in via a super admin account and use the 'Social Meta' button in our toolbar. There should be a list of all the Open Graph tags that JFBConnect is attempting to set. Could you copy that list please and post it to this thread? It may help me to determine where the extra image is coming from.

By the way, I noticed that unfortunately in a page of the site using another extension (Ju Tabs) enabling the 2 open graph plugins created a wrong visualization of the tabs, so I unpublished Open Graph - Content and published only Open Graph - Custom Object, now the visualization is still ok. Does it matter with the issues of the present post? May I leave it like this?

Thank you, best regards
Francesco

Looking at your page again, I only see one og:image tag now. I think that the Open Graph - content plugin had been adding the extra image. Now I only see one.

By the way, I also just noticed that you were still running 6.1.2. In the newest version of JFBConnect, the 'Social Meta' statements that I was asking aboutare more detailed about which of our plugins are inserting this tag, but unfortunately I cannot see that detail in your version. Either way, it seems like the issue is resolved by just disabling the content plugin.

If you are not having any other issues with the tags being incorrect, it's absolutely fine to leave that plugin disabled.

Hi, unfortunatly I cannot download the last version because my subscription has expired last month, in any case it is a little bit strange that in the page www.taichionline.it/cd-musica-tai-chi.html the code include
<meta property="og:description" content="Shop online, corsi multimediali di Tai Chi scaricabili, dvd, musica per tai chi, libri, news, corsi e scuole in Italia, lezioni e quiz online."/>

but sharing the page the popup shows under the image (logo) part of the text of the home page. I think it is correct to pass to facebook the code of the home page, but it could be better to pass the og:description.

Best regards
Francesco

Hi, I just shared a page on my site in facebook, in the popup I saw the logo image I wish, but in the wall of facebook profile another image was shown.

I went to developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ and fetch new scrape information and it gaves me a warning message: the image is to small. The logo image size for og:image is 1200 x 630 exacltly as facebook suggest in this page developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/bes...?locale=it_IT#images

so I published again the plugin Open Graph - Content just to check if something changes. Now here developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ I can see the logo image, but sharing the page facebook shows n the wall a part of another image of the home page www.taichionline.it/images/grafica/banne...t-tai-chi-online.png

Now I have to desable again Open Graph - Content plugin because of the conflict with JU TABS extension, if you want I can provide you a user account to see the back end of the site and do some tests.

Please let me know, many thanks.

Francesco,
The Open Graph tags are the right way to update your image and description. However, Facebook uses what can best be described as a rubber band on the tags themselves. If you have the tags set one way for a while and it gets many shares, then future updates to the tags don't take immediate effect. They do this to prevent malicious use where a site gets a lot of Likes and then the web admin changes the description, title and image to something... inappropriate. Because the shares actually update in a user's Timeline, there is a period where Facebook will 'test' the new tags before using them completely.

The more sharing your page has had, the longer it can take for the update to appear.

I hope that helps explain some. What I'd suggest is getting the tags to work in their Object Debugger tool, like you've been doing, and then wait a while (days or even weeks) to verify the tags show properly. Alternatively, test with a new 'fresh' page to see your changes quicker.

Thanks,
Alex
