Custom Tag Question

Custom Tag Question

Hi,

I am trying to place custom tags into articles.  I read the documentation and followed the directions as best as I can.  For example:  I used

JFBCFan height=200 width=200 colorscheme=light href=http://www.sourcecoast.com show_faces=true stream=false header=true

For the Fanbox.   I put my website URL in the href spot.  This did not work.  In the documentation it says to use the module url.  I can not find a module URL anywhere and don't know where to find it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Custom Tag Question

Hmm... looks like our documentation isn't up to snuff, unfortunately.

The Fan module is meant to link to a Facebook page only (it can't be something on your site). The URL should look something like:

Code:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/SourceCoast/141717952527296

If you're not looking for something to link to your existing Facebook Page, let us know, and there are some alternatives.. though none that have all the features of the Fan module.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: Custom Tag Question

Hi,

What I am wanting to do is have a link on my mainpage that goes to another page which has all the facebook wigits.  I did want to put the facebook wigits on my mainpage but I needed them to fit in the parameters of my custom template and the size of the facebook wigits were too big and could not be made small enough.  So I thought if I could have them all set up in an article then that would work out well.  Not quite sure how else to do it.

Re: Custom Tag Question

You can easily put them all into an article. That's what we've done on the page below:
http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/d … al-modules

To do that, simply create the article, and add your tags:
{JFBCLike href=http://www.sourcecoast.com/} (or just {JFBCLike})
{JFBCFan href=http://www.facebook.com/pages/SourceCoast/141717952527296}
....
It's possible I misunderstood the original question/issue though. When you say "It doesn't work", is nothing from Facebook showing up, or is there a little window into Facebook, possibly with an error?
* If it's an error, we'll need to see the page that it's happening on, and we should be able to easily help you fix it.
* If the text simply isn't being replace (you see the {JFBCxxx} tag), ensure that the JFBCSystem plugin is enabled. If it is, check if you have a Social Admin Key set in the Misc tab of the Social configuration area. If there's a value in there, that means the key needs to be used in the tags. That prevents the tags from being entered by end-users so that they can't add the tags anywhere and have them appear on your site, like in this forum. If you have a key, the tags would look like:
{JFBCLike key=12345} (where 12345 is obviously the key)

Hope that helps, but if you're still stumped, let us know what's happening, and we can help you get to the bottom of it!

Re: Custom Tag Question

Hi,

I am now getting this error message on the comments box

Warning: http://herorisingthebook.com/index.php/ … cle?id=111 is unreachable.

Any ideas as to why?

Also, the invite box is not coming up.  I used {JFBCInvite}

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Custom Tag Question

Jason,
The unreachable error can happen in a few different cases, and generally will clear itself up with a few days. Usually, it happens when your application is new and the specific page that your trying to view is marked as registered (so a user has to be logged in to see it). Facebook tries to 'look' at all the pages on your site that has a comment box to make sure it's not spam or malicious or other types of 'bad' content. When it's a registered page, they can't view it. and so you can get the Unreachable error. Facebook will eventually remove the warning after they've scanned publicly viewable pages to make sure they're not bad (and then infer the registered ones are good too) as well as being able to see a little bit of information about the pages when a registered user views them (the Open Graph and meta tags). Additionally, comments should still work on the page, and as some are added (to any pages), that will help mark the page as not-spam.

So, in short, give it time and the issue should go away. Not perfect, but part of working with Facebook.

As for the Invite module, currently, we don't have an easy tag to insert the JFBCInvite module. What we can recommend is setting up the JFBCInvite module how you want want it configured, and then, if you're putting it in an article, using the {loadposition xxx} tag, where xxx is the position you assigned the Invite module too. That uses the Load Module Content Plugin (part of Joomla) to do something similar to our easy-tags.

Hope that helps, but if you need anything else, just let us know!
