How do we implement the new email access changes that facebook posted today?

Here is the link to the documentation on facebook - [url:31obpu83]http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Communicating_with_Users_via_Email[/url:31obpu83]

I create pseudo joomla users with their facebook name. It would be great to prompt a facebook user his email address then store it in the table that holds that @unknown address.

We don't have any answers to this yet, but definitely like the way that Facebook is going. It seems that on one hand, their tightening privacy controls, but this move actually opens up access to a user's real email address.

We can't give a timeline for implementing this, because while it sounds great, there's still complications. Primarily, when a user registers, we can ask for permission to get their email, but if they deny it, how do we proceed. Not insurmountable as we're already making an address up. However, the 'requiring email' feature seems useful to get around this, but we'll need to ensure that we have that as an option as some sites don't care to get the user's real email address.

1) Any updates on this? Has it been implemented? If not what's the status?

2) Is any other new version coming out soon without this feature?

3) So just to make sure I get this right. People come fill in the facebook login and I can create a user based on their information automatically from some of the Facebook fields as long as I put this information in corresponding TEXT value fields in Community Builder
(3.1 Radio buttons, Drop Down boxes etc won't be working?). I also need to ensure that I can get ALL the required fields for my Community Builder Registration from facebook otherwise it won't work
(3.2 ie since I require email during registration, this won't work?). The next time the same person visits my profile they can log in with facebook or standard
(3.3 No difference, all the same?)
3.4 If I have account verification enabled in Community Builder will the users that have registered from a Facebook login be automatically approved in CB or will CB still send out an email that the users need to click on to activate their CB/Joomla account?
3.5) Finally how can I test this in a localhost environment, before implementing it on the live system? Do I have to test it on a live development environment that's hosted online?

...Yeah sorry about that mess! Would really appreciate feedback though :)

Mark,

The developer that was investigating this is currently on vacation. He is returning next week and I will discuss this with him and see if we have come up with any answer. If you thought of anything, please provide any input you have.

Thanks. Sorry for the delay.

Our development team will be discussing this today. I will let you know when you can expect a version of JFBConnect that allows importing the user's email address.
