Topic-icon Bug: JFBCcomments [LIKE] Not using unique page id

I'm not sure if this is a JFBC problem or a FB problem but my comment box has a like box (which I would prefer to disable if i could. but I can't. The problem is the home page of my site has 3 different variations of the same page url, and each one has a different like button (these people liked your page) the comments seem to be shared with every variation but the likes seem to be associated with the url of the page. im using a variable in the fixed comment id field because I only want the comments on my main page and not on all my other pages. but i want them to work all versions of the url ie. www.site.com or www.site.com/index.php or www.site.com/whatever/whatever/blah.php=whatever&42

Hey Sean,
Sorry for the delayed response. I'd suggest reading this other post, we just did, which may help explain a little bit about the unique IDs we use and how to best use the JFBContent module vs individual tags per article:
www.sourcecoast.com/forums/topic?id=1745&p=1#p7466

With that said, some more specifics to your post.. If the comments are the same for each article in a blog layout, that's not right. We should be including a unique ID for each comment box. We'll look into it, but let me know if that's what you mean.

As for the Like button that is inserted using the JFBConent plugin can be disabled. Go into the parameters for that plugin and set it to hide. There's some other options available there too you might like.

Hope this answers most of your questions. The dynamic URLs can always be a problem, and we realized that when we first released all the social modules. The Content plugin was our first stab at correcting this, for articles at least, by always using the same ID regardless of how the article is shown. If you have any other feedback, suggestions, or questions, just let us know.

Thanks!

I am sorry if i didnt explain it right, I'm acctually refering to the JFBCcomment module not the JFBCcontent module, the jfbc comment module if I put a comment module on say the main homepage for my site so that people can put just general comments there, it shows a like box on that module. but if i set JFBCcomment's Fixed Comment ID tag to a value it will use that same set of comments on any page in my site that shows that module. however on the top of the comment module there is a embeded likebox that has no options what soever and it seems that doesnt connect to the Fixed comment ID tag so that if i click the home menu on the top of my page it shows me so and so liked my page, but if i click the home menu link on the side bar of my page it shows that different people liked my page. and both of those are different from the people who liked my page when i just enter the domain name and don't click any links. you can see it at the bottom of www.canbycubs.com there is a fanbox and a comment box

Alright, thanks for the explanation. We'll be consolidating some of the options of the Module to have the same features as the content plugin soon (to be able to hide the additional Like button and some other things). That won't be available until the 3.2 release, but we'll investigate the non-shared ID between the comment box and like button tomorrow or this weekend.

Sorry for the troubles, and thanks for the report. We'll let you know what we find.

After investigating, it seems that Facebook does not have a way to specify URL or unique ID for the Like portion of the Comment Box. Also, by how they've designed it, it seems to operate separately from the comment portion, so there is no way to control the Like.

I put out a new release of the JFBComments module that allow you to hide the Like button in the Comments module. As a workaround, you can hide it and then also use the Like button or Fan box modules to add the Like functionality into your page with control for the URL. Just to note, with this new release the JFBCSocial module will need to be published for the Comments module to work.

If Facebook changes the functionality to allow what you're looking for, we'll update our modules, but until then, this is the only solution we've found.
