We've only implemented the very basic functionality of Facebook Connect. We wanted to get what we have out there so we can get feedback from users to know which functionality would be most useful so we know what to implement next.
You can read up on all the different things Facebook Connect allows for and see some other demo sites here:
If you can point us directly to someone else doing something for the documentation that says it's possible, it definitely helps us out.
I will add these to the top of our list to investigate. I'm not sure if Facebook allows for all of them, but if it does, we'll build it. If I misunderstood any of them, let me know:
- A way to sync Facebook users to Joomla users by e-mail address without the user logging into the site (not sure if this is allowed by Facebook, but we'll see).
- A way to have a non-Joomla either signup or register after they sign in through the Facebook login.
- A way to display all Facebook users who have accepted this site as an application.
Thanks for the feedback!
We actually just put up version 1.1 because SEF was causing issues with UserMap. If you aren't using SEF, you might be OK. If you are, I would suggest updating.
Were you logged into Joomla when you Connected to Facebook? The way it currently works, after you Connect to Facebook, we make an AJAX call to the component passing the user's Facebook ID. If the user is logged in, we create a mapping from the logged in user to the Facebook ID sent back by Facebook.
Eventually, we want to make it smart enough to ask the user to login/register or require that the user is already logged in/registered before displaying the Connect button, but we wanted to get user feedback to see which way would work better.
Let us know if you can't get the UserMap working. Thanks for helping us!
Nope. When an author updates the files for their product on CMS Market, the new files will show up in the User Downloads page of anyone that has already purchased it:
Let me know if you have any issues getting the latest version.
Log out of Facebook Connect on your site. Then, while you are logged into your Joomla site, log into Facebook Connect.
If you still don't see a row in User Map, could you give us some information about your site?
- Windows or Linux server?
- Joomla version?
- PHP version?
- MySQL version?
- Are you using any SEF components?
