I have about 2000 existing users on my Joomla site. But now if any one of them registers on to my site via facebook, the "email already exists" message is displayed. How can that be solved? I don't want the regular joomla registration to exist now. And I want my existing users to be able to register again (if they wish to) via facebook (and they'll have the same email address obviously).

I do not want to remove the previous data of 2000 existing users.

No, definitely not. If a user is logged into Joomla, and you have the JFBCLogin module published, if they then login through Facebook, this will 'connect' their Joomla account to their Facebook account. Later on, they can login through either means, if they want to.

This configuration should work regardless of the "User Creation" process, so if you have it set to "Facebook User's Only", as I think you might want, all new users will have FB only accounts (if you disable normal registration) and 'old' users that connect will have both Joomla and FB accounts.

Make sense? If you have questions or run into issues, let us know!

No. I have disabled the login fields. So there is no option of logging in for the old joomla users. What I want is, the old users should re register to my site via their facebook credentials. Take a look at my site. You'll get to know what I want.

Old registered users are not able to reconnect themselves to facebook account. For example, if This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is already registered on my site. He comes and clicks on the facebook button and enters his facebook credentials. The jfbconnect configuration is set to 'facebook user only'. Now his old account with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. should be linked to facebook account which has the same email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. But instead of this, this message is displayed "This e-mail is already registered. If you forgot your password, click on the Forgot your password link and a new password will be sent to you."

We'll have to investigate how to do this, and if we can come up with an acceptable, secure way, we'll gladly implement it as an option. The big problem I see deals with security and making sure that the user's Joomla account can't be compromised by someone logging into Facebook and stealing their account on your site. On a quick think-through, I think this should be ok as you can't easily update your email in Facebook to someone else's address (you have to verify you own it). If a user's FB or email account is compromised, there's not much we could do about it, and they could reset their Joomla user password anyways and 'steal' the account that way... just thinking.

Please feel free to come up with any other things to be aware of, and we'll look into how to best implement this on our end. I actually think it should be a pretty straight-forward change, but testing will be the key. I'm sure you'll be willing to help out with that part :) This is also something we're starting to get more similar requests for as people are migrating to JFBConnect for bigger and bigger sites, so good to investigate now.

I worked around and disabled the validation in core joomla files that checks for same email addresses. Now it's what I wanted. But there should be a simpler way to handle this.

P.S. I really think that you guys should come up with a ticket system for support.

Glad you figured out something. We do like the idea, and will still investigate something for a future release for others.

As for a ticketing system, we definitely like to hear that feedback. We chose forums because it allows users to search for solutions quicker to their problems, but agree, it can be cumbersome and somewhat unprofessional looking. Do you have more feedback as to why you suggest a ticketing system? Mainly curious if you're unhappy with the support you've received here, or just the fact that you had to use forums to get it.

Thank you!

Hi,

Yes it would be good if you incorporate this feature in the future release.

Ticketing system has many advantages over these forums. Firstly, I can decide the priority of my queries. I wanted to be answered about facebook friends module query earlier than this query, but that did not happen as there was no ticket system. Secondly, with a ticket system, all my queries would come at a single place and I (and even the developers) can glance through the queries of a particular user in a single shot. Thirdly, here I cannot make you login to my administration page as this is public. So you can't give me support where you have to log in to my joomla and see the settings. Lastly, here it doesn't make me feel as if I'm a paid subscriber. I'm just like many other people who're being replied to and who haven't paid for this component.

And even the support lacks the swiftness that other component developers provide (mainly Jreviews and Community Builder)

Thanks,
Rajat.

Thanks for the excellent feedback. We've been constantly updating and upgrading our site and support. Originally, we sold our extensions through CMS Market, but moved them here for a more professional atmosphere. Regarding individual posts, we really only respond to posts from users who are active subscribers, and only get about 1 post / week from non-active. The bubbles under a users' name of active subscriptions has tended to divert non-subscribers from posting, but we understand where you can feel 'one of many'.

You're original post was yesterday, and since then, we've responded 3 times, so I'm not sure I understand the swiftness statement... or at least, don't understand how we could be quicker in responding. However, we do understand that appearances mean a lot, and truly do value the feedback as to why a ticket system is better and are investigating methods to improve.

The other option we've considered (and part of the reason we chose Agora as our forums) is to lock the forums to only subscribers, either for viewing or posting. Currently anyone can read or post, but again, the overwhelming majority of the time it's active subscribers. If we feel inundated with non-subscriber posts, we can flip a switch to make the forums only read-only or not even viewable by non-subscribers.

Thanks again for you input. We're always looking for things to make our subscribers feel more central to our services, as we wouldn't be doing this without you!

You've never responded before 12 hours and that is very annoying and troublesome, again, unlike other developers out there. I raise a ticket at Jreviews and within 2 hours I get a response. Your support is not up to the mark, I'm very sorry to say that.
