Hi There...

JFB Connect looks really great I just have a couple of questions...

I have Custom Fields in my Jomsocial Setup - how would these be affected by the Data pulled in from Facebook ?
I think I may also have changed some of the Standard fields in Jomsocial to suit my site and due to bad English in them - would this be a problem ?

Terence,
If you just changed the text on the fields, that shouldn't be a problem at all. If you changed the functionality in the PHP, that could be an issue, but it'd be impossible to know.

As for custom fields, JFBConnect is able to import Facebook profile information into any text, textfield, date (mainly for birthday), or URL type fields. Other fields such as select, radio or 'choice' type fields can't be imported into from Facebook. Almost all data from Facebook is free-form input from the user, so it's not possible to 'match' that input up to specific selection options that you may have created.

Hope that explains, but if you have any other questions, just let us know. Additionally, all of our extensions have a 30-day money back guarantee. So, should you run into issues you can't overcome, you can easily get your money back.

Hope that helps!
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your comprehensive reply - I appreciate that.

I don't have much php knowledge so I would not have changed any PHP Functions at all.
I mainly changed text and added a few custom fields.... have a look at www.blahbadoo.com - this may give you a clearer idea of what was done.

It would be good to know that I can keep my custom fields but if not I may need to delete them as some of this data would be pulled in from Facebook

Then I also want to find out about the Modules that come with JFB Connect.... is it at all possible to put a Share or Like button under everything posted in JomSocial ? For instance a picture gets posted by 1 of my friends or just a person on our site - can I have a share or like button under his picture or post to share it on FB ?

If you you have normal fields you created in JomSocial, that should be just fine. You may or may not be able to import Facebook data into them depending on what type of field they are, but they should not cause you any problems with JFBConnect.

The Like button can be placed on anywhere on your site, but each Like button needs to have a destination URL associated with it. I don't remember how JomSocial works off-hand for the activity stream, but if there's a unique URL that you can see that status post, it should be pretty easy to add the Like button. The reason you need a unique URL is to let the count be *unique* to each Like button. Additionally, the post that goes into a user's wall (I Like'd xxx) needs to have a URL for their friends to go to to see more about that Like. Again, not familiar enough with JomSocial, but if the unique URL exists for each post (or something similar that would work), we can definitely help you to add a Like button to that content.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Hi Alex,

A few more things... I logged in with Facebook on the Demo site and have a few questions regarding that...
1) There are a few things it didn't seem to pull in like Web Address, City, Town, State, Home town city etc - I don't know if this is because some of it is simply not on my Facebook Profile but my Home Town and Web address is definitely on FB.

2) I also need to know about logging in after users have used the FB loggin.... I see a username and I would like to know if this can be used by the user to log in again... if yes where would the user ever get this username? does it get mailed to them ? - perhaps a functionality that is not live in the Demo ?

Terrence,
Try the demo site again. I've configured it to pull in the website information. There was also a configuration issue with the hometown location, but that's been fixed now. So, you should be able to register on there and have that information pulled in.

As for the username that's created, that is emailed to the user along with a random password so that the user can login with either credentials. The random password functionality can be disabled in the admin are with the "Generate Random Pasword (Automatic Registration)" setting.

Feel free to try different settings on the demo site as you wish. The admin area is available to configure JFBConnect and other features however you want.

Hope that helps,
Alex
