Can you provide a URL of your site where we can see the behavior? Sometimes there are styling conflicts with templates that can cause this.
We're redesigning the login form in our SCLogin v9.x (currently out in beta). Any changes to 8.4 will be minimal at this point, so if I see the page in action, I'll be able to recommend some changes for your site.
