I have just setup FBConnect FB Tab and Canvas app features. I intended first to use the Canvas app to build interest and excitement with the upcoming launch of a website along with the "Request" feature to spread the word.

However, my Canvas app provides a button for the user to access a Mailchimp signup form and it appears FB blocks any links external to the "walled garden". I also tried creating a Joomla menu, frame the Mailchimp form, but alas that also appears to be a "non-starter".

Is there a way I can get this done? Would FB allow a link somehow from the Canvas app to a mailchimp app so I could host the signup form there?

How do other users get this done? Thank you for your answers....

eileenod,
The best way to do what you're looking for is to use one of Mailchimp's subscribe forms within your site. You can test using our Canvas page:
apps.facebook.com/joomla-extensions/

Our Canvas area just shows 'this' site. At the bottom (in the big green area), enter your email address and hit submit.. it should work just fine.

As for linking out to another site, that could be a problem. Submitting a form to Mailchimp should be ok though.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Yes, that will work --- but I was curious if there were any way to link out of FB from the canvas. Thanks.

Not that I know of. It's strange what Facebook denies as outgoing. At one point, it was more relaxed. You may want to try setting the link to Mailchimp set to open in a 'new' window. That may work. I think Facebook doesn't want to frame content within their walled garden that isn't explicitly related to your site... so links to your same domain work inside the frame, outside links don't.

I hope that makes sense, and we'd love to hear your feedback on what works or doesn't.

Thanks,
Alex
