Hi guys,
right now I made thet on last 3.9.28, not yet on J4
I'm trying to understand how Open Graph run / should run in theory and in your opinion about og:description.
So, as far as I see by using the main Facebook Debugger tool:

A - Open Graph plugins off
- Joomla Article with Description Content and Meta Descriptions fields filed + I create an Article menu itenu and I add the Meta Description menu item = Debugger is not able to show any Description into preview, but it mark the og:description with the Article Meta Description (not the Meta Description of its menu item)
- if I cancel the Article Meta Description = Debugger is not able to show any Description into preview, but it mark the og:description with the Meta Description of its menu item
- if I cancel also the Article Menu Item Meta Description = Debugger is showing Content Description into preview and it marks the og:description with the Content Description

As far as I know, the right priority ladder should be:
1 - Article Menu Item Meta Description
2 - if not, Article Meta Description
3 - if not, Article Description Content
Please, as far as you know / your experience, What do you think about ?
Is the 1 / 2 "issue" Debugger reading order anything that can be corrected on Joomla code ?

B - Open Graph plugins on (without to create any specific menu JFBC Objects)
Debugger does not care of the Article Meta Descriptions fields and / or the Article Menu Item Meta Descriptions = Debugger is always showing Content Description into preview and it marks the og:description with the Content Description
From my point of view the priority ladder, as I reported above, should be maintained.
Please, What do you think about ? The Meta Description should be more coherent for that than the Description... no ?!? What is your experiene on it ?
What should be the standard / default behaviour ?

Generally, what you show above seems correct. Joomla will always prioritize a menu item's details over an article's details. The reason is that an article can be shown in many ways - by clicking from a blog post, within a module, etc.

A menu item to a specific article means it's a special way to reach that article. All details for that menu item, like alias, take precedence over the article contents.

Our Open Graph plugins have options to let you set how the meta tag is generated for an article or within a whole category. The purpose is so that there isn't a 'ladder', but much more consistent tags that you know where they come from... the meta description, the content itself, etc.

I hope that helps explain, but if you have any other questions or feedback, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
as always, many thanks for your explications, so:

A - Open Graph plugins off
I will re test it when Joomla 4 ill be released and, in case, I will report it as "issue" (I know they are working hard on 3.9.10 > 4 issues)

B - Open Graph plugins on
I can have the plugins enabled ust for other reasons, so (nothing urgent but following the logic) by default they should work / follow / maintain the same "priority ladder" without forcing me to configure new Social Meta Objects for the articles / categories to return to the default Joomla behavior
