easy tags not working

hello there,
i'm trying to add sharing buttons to some of my pages, using insertion of "easy tags" directly in the template layout files.
but instead of sharing buttons, i just get the esay tags as plain text - attaching a screenshot for example.

i have working sharing buttons using the component's built in content plugin (set up in the component "social" settings).
so it seems like there's a specific problem with the easy tags.

what can i do to find the reason for this? are there any common reasons that can cause this problem?

i'm using Joomla version 3.9.1, JFBC version 8.0.0, PHP version 7.3.7.

any advise would be very helpful.
