Hello! I purchased JFBConnect in order to auto post content form a website to a facebook page. The problem is when i create a channel for facebook page in the channel owner text box i cannot type anything and the button that i press to open up the users list brings up an empty list. In the documentation it says: " If this list is empty, you will need to authenticate on the front-end using the login button for the selected provider (not Joomla credentials). Then you can refresh your channel to have the list of users re-populated."
I dont understand what does "authenticate on the front-end using the login button" mean. I don't want to use any login button on my website, i don't want to use JFBConnect to authenticate and login. Just want to publish content on a fb page. Please could you explain? Thanks in advance!

You'll need to enable Facebook authentication, temporarily, to get the proper permissions from Facebook for JFBConnect to post on your behalf. You don't need authentication available on the front-end after the Channel is setup, so no other users will be able to use it.

To do what you want:
* Setup the Facebook Application and add your App ID / Secret Key in JFBConnect
* Enable the SCLogin module so that you can use the Facebook authentication
* Authenticate on the front end
* Setup the FB Channel
* Re-authenticate on the front-end to grant the proper permissions for the channel configuration you've setup
* Disable the SCLogin module

I hope that helps. If you need more assistace though, please post from the account you subscribed to JFBConnect from and let us know specifically what version of JFBConnect you are using.

Thanks,
Alex

Dear Alex thanks for your reply! I've enabled the SCLogin. But what do you mean by saying "Authenticate on the front end" and "Re-authenticate on the front-end to grant the proper permissions for the channel configuration you've setup "? Where is this authentication step? On the Facebook page? I dont understand! I still cannot see any users on the channel owner list.. could you explain what are these authentication steps? I use JFBConnect v7.0.0 and i cannot post from the account i bought the JFBConnect, if that is what you mean, because another company buys it for us with their credentials. I can only tell you their subscriber ID but cannot login with their credentials.

But what do you mean by saying "Authenticate on the front end"

If you have set up the Facebook App Id / secret in JFBConnect and enabled the "Show Social Login Button(s)" option in SCLogin parameters, then the SCLogin module should display a Facebook button for log in. Authenticate on the front-end means use this Facebook log in button in the SCLogin module on your page. When you click the button you will be prompted to create a user on your site that is tied to the Facebook user. Once this user is created, you may then log in using your Facebook credentials. This is the process of authenticating on your site with Facebook.

If you already have an existing user on your site, there is an alternate way to connect the existing account to Facebook credentials if you do not need to create a new Joomla account. If this is what you want, then enable the "Show Connect Account Button(s)" option in SCLogin parameters. On the front-end, then log in via your Joomla account and there should be a Facebook login button with the label "Connect this site to your Social network?". Using this button will link the existing Joomla account to the Facebook account. Then going forward, you can authenticate/login via the Facebook credentials.

and "Re-authenticate on the front-end to grant the proper permissions for the channel configuration you've setup "?

When you have 1) authenticated with the FB user (as I've just described) and 2) created the channel in the backend, selected the owner you authenticated with, and save the channel, then go to the front-end of your site. Log out of your site and then use the SCLogin module Facebook login button to log in again. You should be prompted to accept new permissions necessary for the channel.

Once you have accepted these permissions for the channel, you may then disable the SCLogin module.

Dear Melissa thank you very much for your help. I logged in and selected the channel owner! But i didn't see the permissions you said:

Log out of your site and then use the SCLogin module Facebook login button to log in again. You should be prompted to accept new permissions necessary for the channel.

Once you have accepted these permissions for the channel, you may then disable the SCLogin module.

I disabled the SCLogin module anyway. Is there any problem with that?
Also i cannot understand how to set up things so that autopost works... I created an article and i expected it to be pushed to my facebook page.. How is this done? I am very confused... =( It seems quite difficult to understand...Please could you help me?

After you setup the channel and select the user, you'll need to login on the front-end with that Facebook user. If you aren't seeing the permission prompt, you may already have granted it. Are you still seeing an error message in the Channel area about needing a permission? If so, what is the error you see?

If you're still having issues, please take pictures of your setup and let us know the exact errors or problems you're having so we can help narrow things down further.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex thank you for your reply. I don't get any errors, it is just that autopost doesn't work. I have set up the channel, selected the user and loged in as Melissa said. I have no errors, but i don't know how to make it work. I don't want to keep a facebook login area on my website, i followed Melissa's instructions, i disabled the SCLogin module and thought that autopost would just happen... What is that i am missing? Where do i chose if i want to post certain articles on my facebook page or whether i want everything to be posted automatically? Please could you help me, i cannot make it function and people wait for me to finish it!! =( =(

After selecting the channel owner, you can:

1. Post Automatically - you will need to select the Autopost Objects or Plugins further down in the channel configuration. If these are empty, please follow the instructions found here for setting up objects and / or plugins. That page also details when the new content will be posted. This is a new feature of JFBConnect, so of course please let us know if you run into any difficulties.

2. Post Manually - you can manually post specific articles from the front-end of your site using our Social Toolbar, as described here .

Here's the section from that link that I was referring to:

Autopost Plugins: This setting is used to select the Open Graph plugins that should automatically post any supported content as it's published. For example, Joomla Content - Articles, JomSocial - Events and Groups, K2 - Items and EasyBlog - Posts. Only plugins that are enabled will be selectable in this list. If at any time the plugin is disabled, the auto-posting will not occur for this plugin until it is re-enabled.

You need to enable the appropriate Open Graph plugins. These were installed when JFBConnect was installed on your site. For instance, if you want to autopost when a Joomla article is published, then the 'Open Graph - Content' plugin must be enabled.

Autopost Objects: Instead of posting for all content to an Open Graph plugin, further customize JFBConnect to only post for certain Open Graph objects. For instance, if you only want to automatically post when articles from a certain category are published, use this option. First configure an Open Graph object in the JFBConnect backend > Open Graph > Objects configuration area and then select it in the Channel's Autopost Objects section. Only objects that are enabled will be selectable in this list. If at any time the object is disabled, the auto-posting will not occur for this object until it is re-enabled.

If you want to further narrow down the autoposting for a certain category, then you must first enable our appropriate 'Open Graph' plugin, then create an Open Graph object.
