Hey All,

I've jumped through every hoop I can think of to find the answer to this, from adding references into default tags, setting up an go:image object (both as a custom and a "first in article" modes), etc.

Please direct me to a step-by-step approach to getting the right image to show up in FB.

Thanks,

Ben

For standard Joomla articles, all you usually need to do is enable the Open Graph - Content plugin. That plugin will automatically find the main image or first image in the article's contents and set it as the og:image tag. If you want to set a different og:image for the article, in the text, you can simply add the following tag:
{SCOpenGraph image=http://yoursite.com/link-to-best-image.jpg}

Once you think the Open Graph tags are set properly, you can view them in the HTML and use the Facebook Open Graph Debug Tool to check what Facebook sees on the page. Also, their debug tool is useful to refresh their cached data as updates won't be automatically seen in a newsfeed as the tags are cached.

I hope that helps answer your questions, but if you're looking for something else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Alex for getting back to me.

Unfortunately, even the debug tool doesn't seem to update properly (please see the screenshot attachment enclosed). But at least the right image is now under og:image!

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ben

Here's additional information:

"og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that's at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image 'bendowling.com/media/rokgallery/f/f7d424...311-79736d4a5df4.jpg' will be used instead. Consult developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters/crawler for more troubleshooting tips."

images size is 400x400, is in a publicly accessible location; and I have added the link in a Featured (frontage) Document as such: {SCOpenGraph image=http://bendowling.com/images/stories/home_folder/AA-ben-lights-300.jpg}

Not sure of the problem...

There was no image in the post above. After you upload, please make sure to use the green arrow to insert your image into the post.

As for the Debug Tool, please click the "Fetch new scrape information" to have Facebook re-check the page instead of showing the cached data.

Finally, beyond that, let us know
* The URL you're testing with so we can check things out.
* How you're setting up the tags - Just the Open Graph - Content plugin, or are you using the SCOpenGraph tag on the page?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for getting back.

I've enclosed the screenshot in this post:
File Attachment:

This SS is after I fetched new scrape information - since I assumed that it was reading cached information.

I have both the OG content plugin enabled and I've inserted the code as above into an article that resides on the front page.

I did review the html source and can confirm that the og:image is properly identified.

I have removed any global tag out of the configuration area of OG within JFBConnect.

I have unpublished the object I created in trying to fix this.

Please note that the og:image is properly referenced and it appears in the SS, yet does not propagate to the FB preview. This is the problem I've been faced with.

The site URL is bendowling.com I am happy to provide a temporary administrator access if that would help, but we would need to communicate those credentials through an encrypted communication.

Alex, I want you to know that I worked at Korg R&D (synth manufacturer) for 10 years designing systems that people need to get complex systems up and running. I found that having a basic setup document was vital—particularly when many different pieces are on the board. I would really suggest that you create a "basic setup" document that outlines all of the basics of these interconnecting functions—for a very basic setup. Just the minimum to get up and running. It would be great customer service and would alleviate 50% (?) of their questions and better serve your valuable time.

Ben,

When I looked at the FB Open Graph Debugger for your homepage link of bendowling.com/ I am able to see a preview without re-scraping the page. Are you still having the problem? Are you trying this for a different URL than the homepage?

Glad to hear it sounds like things are going. If you need anything else, just let us know.

On a side note, we're always looking to improve our documentation. It's somewhat of a never-ending battle, as we we have a lot of documentation overall, but a quick-start guide is something in our roadmap to get going.

Thanks,
Alex
